The Banquets / Convention Services Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the Banquet Department, ensuring the successful planning, coordination, execution, and evaluation of all banquet events and functions. This role develops and leads a high-performing team, achieves financial and operational objectives, maintains service excellence, and ensures all event spaces and equipment are maintained to the highest standards.

The Manager partners closely with Sales, Hotel, Culinary, Food & Beverage, and other operational departments to deliver exceptional guest experiences while maintaining labor, cost, and quality standards.
 

Responsibilities
  • Provide overall leadership and direction for all banquet operations, including planning, organizing, execution, and evaluation of banquet functions and special events.
  • Coordinate and direct the daily activities of the Banquet Operations team to ensure successful event execution.
  • Work closely with Sales, Culinary, Food & Beverage leadership, and event clients to ensure all event requirements and expectations are met
  • Schedule and manage banquet staffing levels to provide exceptional guest service while maintaining labor cost controls.
  • Partner with support teams to ensure room sets, event layouts, audiovisual requirements, and operational details are properly executed.
  • Work with third-party vendors, including décor, entertainment, and event production companies, to support client needs.
  • Anticipate, address, and resolve guest concerns, complaints, and service issues to ensure guest satisfaction and repeat business.
  • Recruit, hire, onboard, train, coach, and evaluate banquet team members.
  • Provide team members with the tools, resources, and training necessary to perform their duties effectively.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure banquet areas, equipment, and storage spaces meet company cleanliness, safety, and operational standards.
  • Ensure all function spaces are maintained in a clean, organized, and professional condition.
  • Monitor departmental performance and identify opportunities to enhance service levels, operational efficiency, and profitability.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, safety standards, and all applicable regulations
  • Understand and administer the applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement and partner with Human Resources regarding employee relations matters, including complaints and grievances.
  • Prepare, analyze, and review operational and financial reports related to banquet operations.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Hospitality Management, Food & Beverage Management, Business Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 to 5 years of progressive Food & Beverage or Banquet Operations experience required.
  • Previous leadership experience managing banquet, convention services, or large-scale event operations required.
  • Experience developing, coaching, and leading high-performing teams.
  • Strong leadership, communication, customer service, team-building, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver exceptional guest service and maintain high service standards.
  • Knowledge of banquet operations, event planning, staffing, and labor management.
  • Understanding of Food & Beverage cost control, budgeting, and financial performance metrics.
  • Ability to compile, analyze, and interpret operational and financial data.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal departments, vendors, and clients.
  • Proven ability to motivate and direct employees in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficient in creating written reports, operational summaries, and financial documentation.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor required.

  • Fast-paced hospitality environment requiring flexibility and responsiveness to changing business needs.
  • Ability to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to work independently while managing multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to perform the physical duties of frontline banquet employees in emergency or operational situations.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds and assist with banquet setup, service, and cleanup as needed.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and reach for extended periods throughout the workday.
  • Ability to respond calmly, professionally, and make sound decisions when handling guest or employee concerns and conflicts.
  • Strong mathematical skills with the ability to perform calculations accurately and efficiently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with guests, team members, and leadership.
  • Ability to prepare written reports and financial documentation.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
