Position Summary
The Second-Line Controls Support Engineer is part of the North American Support Center (NASC) and works within the Global Service Helpdesk to support automated material handling solutions across North America and other global sites when required. This role focuses on diagnosing and resolving controls-related incidents, supporting Low-Level Controls (LLC) systems, and ensuring minimal disruption to customer operations.
The engineer will collaborate with other Control Support Engineers within the NASC call center team to register, track, document, and resolve disruptions, system errors, and technical inquiries. Strong expertise in PLC systems, controls troubleshooting, and industrial automation environments is essential for success in this role.
Overview
- Provide second-line technical support within the North American Support Center (NASC) for automated material handling solutions supported by Vanderlande Services.
- Support incident registration, tracking, documentation, and resolution as part of the Global Service Helpdesk.
- Apply expertise in Low-Level Controls (LLC), PLC systems, and industrial automation to diagnose and resolve system issues.
- Collaborate with internal teams and global service partners to maintain system uptime and operational performance for customers.
Key Responsibilities
- Support NASC incident management activities for Vanderlande-supported material handling systems, including troubleshooting and resolving Low-Level Controls (LLC) and PLC-related issues raised by customers.
- Diagnose and rectify control system faults within tight deadlines, performing PLC checks, updates, modifications, and debugging activities as required.
- Follow defined support processes, escalate complex incidents when necessary, and prepare incident summaries and technical reports.
- Participate in shift rotations and out-of-hours on-call coverage, while supporting team knowledge sharing, mentoring, and training initiatives when established in the role.
Qualifications / Requirements
- Relevant engineering education to degree level or equivalent experience in a related technical discipline.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in controls technology, including commissioning, installation, or debugging of PLC and IPC systems.
- Hands-on experience with Allen Bradley PLCs and familiarity with field bus systems (PROFIBUS, ASI), industrial networks, and controls environments.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues, prioritize work effectively, and collaborate within a technical support team.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science.
- Experience with Siemens or Schneider PLC systems in addition to Allen Bradley platforms.
- Familiarity with Webfactory, SCADA systems, IT networks, databases, or other high-level control systems.
- Experience supporting automated logistics or material handling systems in service, site-based, or technical support environments.
