We are seeking a detail-oriented PLC Networking Engineer to design, configure, and maintain network infrastructure supporting industrial automation systems. This role is responsible for ensuring reliable communication between PLCs, HMIs, SCADA systems, and other industrial devices across Ethernet/IP. The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in both PLC systems and industrial networking best practices.

  • Design and implement robust industrial network architectures for PLC-based automation systems.
  • Configure switches, routers, and firewalls within OT (Operational Technology) environments.
  • Set up and maintain industrial communication protocols (e.g., EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP, OPC UA).
  • Troubleshoot and diagnose network-related PLC communication issues.
  • Collaborate with Controls Engineers to ensure proper PLC-to-PLC and PLC-to-HMI/SCADA communications.
  • Implement VLANs, QoS, and segmentation strategies to enhance network security and performance.
  • Ensure compliance with cybersecurity standards for industrial networks (ISA/IEC 62443, NIST, etc.).
  • Document network configurations, topology diagrams, and change logs.
  • Provide training and support for field technicians and maintenance staff.
  • Support startup, commissioning, and integration of automation systems at customer or production sites.
  • This position manages all employees of the department (6-8) and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

Requirements
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Automation, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in PLC systems and industrial networking.

Technical Skills:

    • Hands-on experience with PLC platforms (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, or Schneider Electric).
    • Proficiency in industrial Ethernet network configuration and troubleshooting.
    • Experience with Layer 2/3 switches, industrial firewalls (e.g., Hirschmann, Moxa, Cisco, Stratix IE), and wireless access points.
    • Familiarity with network monitoring tools (e.g., Wireshark, SNMP tools, NetFlow analyzers).
    • Understanding of OT/IT convergence, cybersecurity practices, and SCADA/HMI communication.

Preferred Qualifications:

    • CCNA, HIES, Industrial or equivalent networking certification.
    • Experience with network redundancy protocols (e.g., RSTP, MRP, DLR).
    • Knowledge of industrial safety systems and protocols (e.g., CIP Safety, PROFIsafe).
    • Experience with cloud or edge connectivity in IIoT environments.

Soft Skills:

    • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
    • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
    • Ability to work independently on-site and remotely.
    • Willingness to travel up to 25% for commissioning and support.
