Job Description

The Team Lead Controls Hardware Engineer is responsible for leading a team of engineers to develop and implement standardized control systems and solutions. The role is central to creating efficient engineering processes, defining technical standards, and driving continuous improvements in control system solutions. The Team Lead ensures that the team consistently applies standardized solutions, while also solving complex engineering challenges through technical innovations and specialized solutions.

Tasks & responsibilities

  • Lead and guide the Controls Hardware Engineering team in developing and refining engineering standards and technical solutions.
  • Define and manage the development of standardized control system solutions to simplify and improve engineering processes.
  • Provide specialized technical solutions for complex challenges, ensuring that the team delivers high-quality and efficient results.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including R&D, system Engineering and Safety teams, to ensure the application of these standards and solutions.
  • Continuously evaluate and enhance engineering processes and standards to ensure they remain effective and aligned with company goals.
  • Support the development and automation of tools and documentation that streamline the engineering process for the entire team.

Verification & approval

  • Review and approve the design of standardized control system solutions, ensuring they comply with established standards and safety regulations.
  • Verify that technical solutions are both innovative and aligned with current industry standards before implementation.
  • Ensure all technical solutions are reviewed, tested, and validated for compliance and functionality prior to deployment.
  • Oversee the budget and resource allocation for developing new standards and solutions, ensuring efficient use of resources while maintaining quality.

Administration & other 

  • Manage project management tools and ensure accurate tracking of progress in developing standards and specialized solutions.
  • Maintain up-to-date documentation related to standardized control systems, solutions, and engineering processes.
  • Ensure timely procurement of components required for new solutions and standards.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for senior management on the status of standardization efforts and technical innovations.

Training & development

  • Develop training programs focused on the adoption and implementation of engineering standards and technical solutions within the team.
  • Motivate, inspire and coaching of controls engineers and draftsmen.
  • Ensure that the engineering team remains up to date with the latest technologies and industry best practices in control systems.
  • Foster a continuous learning environment where engineers can enhance their skills in both standardization and solving complex engineering problems.
  • Encourage knowledge sharing and mentorship within the team to support professional growth and innovation.

Qualifications

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or graduate in Engineering, Business Administration, Supply Chain, Project Management or equivalent through experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a technical, engineering support or project coordination role, preferably in an industrial or automation environment.
  • Affinity with industrial automation, electrical engineering or controls engineering.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills with a structured way of working.
  • Excellent attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineers, project managers, procurement and management.
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to identify issues and drive follow-up.

Technical Skills

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with Smartsheet or similar project planning tools (MS Project, Primavera, Monday.com, etc.).
  • Experience with ERP systems (preferably SAP) for PR/PO processing and project administration.
  • Experience with dashboards, reporting and KPI follow-up.
  • Knowledge of project planning and resource planning principles.
  • Understanding of budgets, cost tracking and project milestones.
  • Fluent in English; Dutch is an asset.

Nice to have

  • Experience in machine automation, material handling systems or intralogistics.
  • Basic understanding of electrical engineering documentation (drawings, BOMs, electrical cabinets).
  • Experience supporting multidisciplinary engineering projects.
