Job Description:
Position SummaryWe are seeking a Controls Engineer to support the design, implementation, and deployment of control systems for construction machinery.
This role is ideal for engineers early in their careers who want to develop strong capabilities across software, controls, electrical, and mechanical systems, while working hands-on with real machines in both lab and field environments.
Key ResponsibilitiesControl Software DevelopmentSupport the design and implementation of machine control software
Develop software using structured approaches such as state logic (or similar techniques)
Contribute to writing modular, reusable code for features that can be deployed across multiple machine platforms
Apply solid programming practices and software development fundamentals
Assist in implementing control algorithms appropriate for specific machine behaviors
Support characterization of plant behavior
Contribute to development of control strategies using feedback and feedforward components
Support testing and debugging on both test systems and production machines
Assist in validating system performance and identifying issues
Troubleshoot issues across mechanical, electrical, and software domains with guidance
Assist in diagnosing low-voltage electrical circuits (<30VDC) using tools such as multimeters
Support troubleshooting of dynamic mechanical systems
Learn to decompose system problems to identify root causes
Work directly with physical machinery during development and testing
Support field deployments on utility-scale solar sites
Collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, including: Design engineers Field engineers Construction personnel
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
3+ years of experience (internships/co-ops included)
Solid foundation in programming and software development
Basic understanding of control systems
Exposure to real-time or embedded systems
Familiarity with PLC programming
Python experience
Exposure to robotics, mechatronics, or controls projects
Basic understanding of kinematics
Strong learning mindset and curiosity
Hands-on approach to engineering problems
Ability to work across software, electrical, and mechanical domains
Team-oriented with strong interpersonal skills
Structured problem-solving approach
