Job Description

SWA’s Engineering team, you will be developing real-time automation solutions from the manufacturing plant floor to the enterprise level, using a variety of programming, configuration, and design tools: PLC and PAC Programming, Operator Interface and HMI application design, SCADA design, Network design, Database design, Vision system design, Machine Safety system design, Motion control (Servo, NC, CNC), Information Solution design, MES design, ERP connector development, High-level software solution design (involving C#, HTML5, .NET, SQL, VB, VBA, and more).  

Key-skills and interests: machine and process control, high-level programming, information solutions, database development, operational efficiency, mechatronics


Responsibilities:

  • Program applications to meet & exceed customer/projects specifications, application requirements.
  • Engineering and implementing real-time automation controls and information solutions
  • Conceptualizing during the design phase of the project life cycle
  • System programming, debugging, and testing
  • Creating documentation, including project engineering notes, project design traceability documentation, case studies, and more
  • Commissioning new solutions; finding opportunities for improvements
  • Creating methodologies and complex problem-solving
  • Learning new technologies
  • Mentoring colleagues on your expertise and knowledge base
  • Having fun and being challenged

Technologies Used:

  • PLC Programming Platforms: Beckhoff, B&R Automation, PLCNext, Codesys, Schneider
  • System Networking: Ethernet, Routing and Switching, ADS, Modbus, MQTT, OPC UA, TCP/IP
  • HMI Platforms: Beckhoff, Inductive Automation
  • Vision Platforms: Cognex, Keyence, ROS, Halcon
  • High-level Programming: IEC-61131-3, C#, HTML5, Python, C++
  • Database Platforms: MS SQL, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MariaDB, MySQL, InfluxDB
  • Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows 10+, Linux, freeBSD

 

Requirements/Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science or higher in Mechanical, Electrical, Computer Engineering or related Engineering Technology field or equivalent combination of education and experience, 1-3 years
  • Academic or working experience with some or all the listed “Technologies Used”, in previous section.
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to program, specifically text-based languages and object-oriented concepts.
  • Works well in a team-oriented setting.
  • Thrives on learning and applying what you have learned to new projects.
  • Good problem-solving skills, while learning how to solve more complex problems over time.
  • Capable of self-starting on tasks and asks questions along the way.
  • Possess complete grasp of scientific method of problem solving
  • Ability to follow patterns & build upon established models
  • Understand complex system designs
  • Meticulous, conscientious, analytical, focused, self-starter individual, who is a quick learner.

 

 

 

 

Skills Required

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or related field
  • 1-3 years of academic or work experience with listed technologies
  • Demonstrated interest and ability to program in text-based languages
