GENERAL SUMMARY:
This position is broader than a traditional Controls Engineer role and requires a combination of Siemens controls expertise, electrical engineering capability, equipment troubleshooting, and practical engineering judgment. The individual will play a key role in establishing and supporting Gasbarre’s Siemens controls platform, including converting existing Rockwell based press and palletizer systems to Siemens and providing long term technical ownership of the platform.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, program, implement, and support Siemens based PLC and HMI control systems for Gasbarre equipment.
- Lead the conversion of existing machine controls from Mitsubishi and Rockwell/Allen Bradley platforms to Siemens based architecture.
- Develop and maintain complete electrical bills of material for press and palletizer systems.
- Create and maintain electrical schematics, controls narratives, cause and effect matrices, and other controls documentation.
- Develop machine to machine communication strategies and integrate equipment across larger automated production systems.
- Debug, troubleshoot, and validate electrical and controls systems during equipment assembly, commissioning, and customer installation.
- Provide technical support for equipment installation, startup, and troubleshooting at customer facilities.
- Assume technical ownership of Siemens based control platforms after deployment, including ongoing support, standardization, and continuous improvement.
- Provide technical guidance to engineering and management regarding Siemens controls architecture, lifecycle management, standardization, and support requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with engineering, operations, project management, customers, and other stakeholders while managing multiple priorities and technical inputs.
- Apply practical engineering judgment to resolve electrical, controls, and equipment integration challenges.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated experience developing, programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting Siemens PLC and HMI platforms are required.
- Experience with Rockwell/Allen Bradley controls platforms is desired.
- Broad electrical and controls engineering experience, including practical machine troubleshooting and system integration.
- Ability to interpret and develop electrical schematics, electrical BOMs, controls narratives, and functional documentation.
- Experience with industrial equipment, machine controls, automated systems, or similar capital equipment environments.
- Strong problem solving skills with the ability to make sound technical decisions in situations involving multiple inputs, priorities, and constraints.
- Ability and willingness to support equipment commissioning, installation, and troubleshooting at customer locations.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to work across engineering disciplines and functional teams.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering preferred; equivalent post secondary electrical/controls training and/or demonstrated professional experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Lifting to a maximum of 40 pounds. This job requires ability to walk, stand and sit as required to effectively perform the job.
