We are seeking a Controls AI/ML Solutions Architect Principal Engineer to join our Gas Power Controls organization. This critical and highly influential role will lead the strategic integration of Artificial Intelligence, Generative AI, Machine Learning, and advanced automation to revolutionize our engineering design, customer fulfillment, and training processes. You will be responsible for conceptualizing and governing scalable, secure control system solutions that enhance Performance, Reliability, Efficiency, Safety, and Decarbonization. A key aspect of this role involves acting as the primary interface with our Advanced Research Center (ARC), translating cutting-edge research into industrial-grade applications, driving AI strategy, and fostering cross-functional collaboration. Demonstrates accountability for functional, business, and broad company objectives in the field of Controls engineering and AI/ML. Integrates and develops AI/ML processes that meet business needs across the organization. Involved in long-term planning. This role contributes to the overall strategy and manages complex issues within our overall Controls AI/ML product development and fulfillment process efficiency
- Identify, develop, evaluate, and introduce engineering solutions to meet near term and long-range strategic initiatives, engineering fulfillment process improvements, and new AI/ML and automation tools needed to support our Controls business objectives.
- Provide technical consultation on AI models and methods, and how to apply them within the Controls product and fulfillment pipeline for the GT, ST, HRSG, and BOP products throughout the business including supplier and field support.
- Assist team with Technical rigor to develop safe, high quality products while being actively Engaged during design process
- Lead and provide the key technical direction to large projects with critical business impact.
- Maintain an active role in developing and defining the state of the art AI/ML Controls solutions in order to anticipate, apply, adapt or develop technologies for product introduction, quality, performance, cost improvements and problem resolution in meeting current and future business needs including adherence to schedules and estimated costs.
- Exercise Curiosity by striving for improved products & processes to support customers
- Provide technical consultation to cross-functional teams throughout the business to improve or resolve manufacturing, product center, supplier, or field issues.
- Effectively communicate and provide recommendations through the analysis, preparation and presentation of technical data to internal and external GE customers using reports, records, and letters.
- Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs.
- Prepare invention disclosures to protect technology that gives the business a competitive advantage, as well as protecting the intellectual property rights of the company.

Other Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Solution Architecture & Governance:
- Lead the conceptualization, design, and architectural governance of advanced control system solutions leveraging AI/ML to enhance performance, reliability, efficiency, safety, and decarbonization efforts.
- Define and enforce architectural standards, patterns, and best practices for AI/ML integration within control systems, ensuring long-term sustainability and maintainability.
Scalability, Security & Interoperability:
- Ensure all proposed solutions are inherently scalable, robustly secure (considering OT/IT convergence, functional safety, and cybersecurity standards like IEC 62443, IEC 61508/61511, NERC CIP as applicable), and seamlessly interoperable with existing controls infrastructure and legacy systems.
- Develop reference architectures and threat models for AI-enabled control applications.
Advanced Research & Technology Transfer (ARC Interface):
- Act as the primary technical interface with GE Vernova's Advanced Research Center (ARC), 3rd party experts, and other external research partners.
- Translate emerging AI/ML and automation technologies from research outputs into production-ready, industrial-grade control applications.
- Guide pilot projects and proofs-of-concept, and systematically build a strong technology pipeline from research centers into fielded deployments, ensuring successful technology transfer and maturation from TRL 4-5 to TRL 7-8.
AI/ML Strategy & Accelerated Adoption:
- Drive the overarching AI strategy for Gas Power Controls, identifying, prioritizing, and championing opportunities for AI/ML deployment across engineering functions.
- Lead initiatives in areas such as predictive maintenance (early fault detection), anomaly detection and root cause diagnostics, intelligent control tuning and self-learning control loops, and automatic controls code generation based on system requirements.
- Develop a strong understanding of how to apply GenAI and Agents to streamline design and customer fulfillment workflows.
Cross-Functional & Cross-Domain Collaboration:
- Collaborate extensively with mechanical, electrical, process, and instrumentation engineers to ensure control solutions are holistic and cut across all engineering domains.
- Work closely with the STAI (Strategic Technology & Adaptive Intelligence) team to adapt and influence broader technology initiatives for maximum business impact.
- Champion a collaborative approach to solution development, fostering shared understanding and alignment across diverse technical teams.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
- Drive innovation initiatives by actively scouting for new ideas, technologies, and methodologies that can provide a competitive advantage.
- Promote an innovation mindset across the organization, mentoring engineers and fostering a culture of continuous learning and experimentation.
- Lead the development of MLOps pipelines and capabilities for AI/ML models in control systems.
Stakeholder Communication & Roadmap Management:
- Present solution roadmaps, technical strategies, and quantified performance improvements to senior leadership, key internal stakeholders, and external customer representatives.
- Articulate complex technical concepts and their business value in a clear, concise, and compelling manner.
Qualifications/Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or Computer Science. Master’s or Ph.D. preferred.
- At least 8 additional years of experience in an engineering capacity

- Proficiency in programming languages commonly used for AI/ML (e.g., Python, C, C++) and control systems (e.g., C++, Ladder Logic, Structured Text).
- Experience with MLOps practices, tools, and platforms for model deployment, database design and access, monitoring, and lifecycle management.
- Strong background in functional safety (e.g., IEC 61508, IEC 61511) and cybersecurity principles for industrial control systems (e.g., IEC 62443, NERC CIP).
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes) relevant to edge or cloud-based industrial AI/ML deployments.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, problem-solving, and analytical skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and define clear technical direction.
- Demonstrated ability to influence, collaborate, and communicate effectively across diverse technical and business teams, including senior leadership and external partners.
- Strong mentorship capabilities, capable of guiding and elevating the technical acumen of less experienced engineers.
