SUMMARY 

As Monroe Community Credit Union’s Controller, the primary responsibility is to oversee the accounting operations of the credit union. The responsibilities encompass generating regular financial reports, maintaining a robust accounting record system, and implementing a comprehensive framework of controls and budgets. This framework aims to minimize risk, improve the accuracy of financial reporting, and ensure compliance with industry-standard accounting principles or international financial reporting standards. Adherence to all credit union policies, procedures, and relevant federal and state laws is mandatory.

This includes appropriate collaboration and engagement of staff and other higher-level executives in information gathering and sharing, projecting management, and implementation of projects and other assignments. ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

Performance Responsibilities – Responsibilities and duties related to this function are: 

  • Oversee day-to-day accounting operations of the credit union. 
  • Manage various financial and accounting functions, such as asset and liability management, budgets, general ledger, financial analysis, financial reporting, recordkeeping, and investments. 
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures for accounting. 
  • Direct and supervise development, production, promotion, of the credit union’s products and services (if applicable).  
  • Prepare monthly reports to the Board of Directors and senior management. 
  • Participate in determining deposit and loan rates. 
  • Participate in investment decisions. 
  • Serve as a trustee of the credit union’s pension plan. 
  • Assist with budgeting and ensure adherence on an ongoing basis.  
  • Assist with lease negotiation and major purchasing decisions for capital equipment or other capital asset expenditures.  
  • Provide clear direction to direct reports to align with the credit union’s overall goals.  
  • Represent and promote the credit union at external functions.  
  • Assist the CFO in month-end processing and other financial reporting where needed. 
  • Support the team with any accounting related projects 
  • Review and/or prepare general ledger reconciliations and analyzes of financial statements.  
  • Review quarterly Call Report 

ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL ACTIVITY 

 The incumbent is in a non-confined office type setting in which he or she is free to move about at will. The position includes driving to MCCU branches which includes exposure to the outside weather elements and moving mechanical parts. It may include some minor annoyances such as noise, odors, drafts, etc.  

While performing this position, the incumbent spends time writing, typing, speaking, listening, lifting (up to 50 pounds), driving, carrying, seeing (such as close, color and peripheral vision, depth perception and adjusted focus), sitting, pulling, walking, standing, squatting, kneeling, and reaching. 

 The incumbent for this position may operate any or all of the following: telephone, cellular telephone, copy and fax machines, adding machine (calculator), scanning equipment, laptop computer, personal computer and related printers, or other equipment as directed.

QualificationsMINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university, in accounting or business administration and 10+ years of progressively responsible experience.  
  • Certified Public Accountant or Certified Management Accountant designations, preferred. 
  • Knowledge of related state and federal banking compliance regulations, and financial institution (specifically credit union) policies and procedures associated with safe and sound operations. 
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to provide leadership, supervision and training for employees using positive supervisory techniques to ensure maximum productivity; demonstrated ability in organization and delegation skills. 
  • Passion and commitment to employee education, training, and great member service. Ability to lead by example by consistently delivering the service process to every internal and external member of MCCCU. 
  • Energizing force in department, credit union and various teams the position participated in; someone who likes to lead and set a high pace of energy, enthusiasm and engagement with employees and members.  
  • Highly attentive to detail and accuracy in all work product.  
  • Advanced skills in personal computer operation; word processing, spreadsheet, and specialty software programs. 
  • Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to apply common sense to carry out instructions and instruct others, train personnel, write reports, correspondence, and procedures, speak clearly to customers and employees. 
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision while performing duties.

Skills Required
