GHJ Search & Staffing is partnered with an innovative, high-profile nonprofit organization at the intersection of entertainment, storytelling, arts, and community engagement seeking a collaborative and hands-on Controller to join its growing finance leadership team.
This organization is currently in an exciting pre-launch and growth phase, operating in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment with significant organizational momentum. The Controller will report directly to the CFO and play a critical leadership role overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, audit management, process development, and cross-functional financial support.

Key Responsibilities:
- Lead day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, and month-end close
- Oversee preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Manage annual audit process and coordinate with external auditors
- Develop and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Support organizational growth through scalable reporting and operational process improvements
- Partner closely with leadership, operations, finance, and external vendors
- Assist with ongoing construction accounting and asset capitalization activities
- Mentor and develop accounting staff while fostering a collaborative team environment
- Serve as both a strategic business partner and hands-on accounting operator
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 8+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience
- Strong Controller-level accounting and financial reporting experience
- Excellent knowledge of GAAP and internal controls
- Experience managing external audits
- CPA preferred
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Advanced Excel and financial systems experience
Preferred Background:
- Nonprofit, entertainment, media, hospitality, museum, or mission-driven organizations
- Experience in startup, high-growth, or evolving environments
- Exposure to construction accounting or fixed asset capitalization is a plus
- Candidates coming from operational/private industry environments are highly preferred
