A growing, multi-entity engineering services organization is seeking a Controller to step into a newly created, high-impact role following a business integration that significantly expanded revenue and operational complexity. This position is ideal for a technically strong CPA who is ready to move beyond pure accounting execution into a more visible, strategic role, partnering closely with finance leadership and influencing how financial performance is communicated across the business.
In this role, you will take ownership of core accounting operations, including the month-end close, financial reporting, and overall integrity of financial data. You’ll work closely with a distributed team and collaborate cross-functionally to ensure accurate, timely reporting while identifying opportunities to improve processes and elevate the function. A key component of the role is translating complex project and financial data into clear, actionable insights for leadership, requiring strong communication skills and the ability to “tell the story” behind the numbers.
The organization offers a collaborative, growth-oriented environment with direct exposure to senior leadership and the opportunity to shape the accounting function during a period of transformation. This role provides a clear path for increased visibility and responsibility, particularly for someone who is eager to develop their executive presence and contribute to broader business decision-making. The structure includes a hybrid schedule (3 days onsite, 2 remote) with flexibility across multiple office locations in the greater Atlanta area, along with periodic travel for team collaboration and training.
Candidates should bring a CPA along with prior public accounting and/or publicly traded company experience, as well as a strong foundation in GAAP and financial reporting. Success in this role requires a balance of technical expertise and communication ability, someone who can operate effectively in a fast-paced environment, influence cross-functional partners, and grow into presenting financial insights to senior leadership. Experience with project-based or job cost accounting and large ERP systems is helpful but not required. This role offers a full suite of benefits plus a discretionary bonus.
Skills Required
- CPA certification
- Prior public accounting experience
- Experience in publicly traded companies
- Strong understanding of GAAP
- Experience with project-based or job cost accounting
