As our Controller for multiple high-growth startups and early-stage businesses, you will work directly with company founders and their teams to become a trusted advisor. Our ideal candidate is a proactive, solution and detail-oriented self-starter who thrives in a diverse and fast-paced environment. In this role, you'll demonstrate proficiency in managing multiple client projects at once, while overseeing and supporting an onshore and offshore team of accountants.
What you'll do:
Lead a full cycle accounting close

• Produce timely and accurate monthly financial statements
• Able to analyze financial reports and communicate results to founders
• Act as the point of contact for external auditors and tax preparers
• Oversee all bookkeeping, reconciliations, accrual journal entries
• Accounts Receivable (invoicing, collections)
• Accounts Payable (processing bills, set up vendors)
• Payroll (set-up, processing, and benefits)
• Purchase order, inventory, and warehouse management
• Experience accounting for inventory and COGS (bill of materials, inventory assemblies, cost accounting)

Build financial models, budgets, and cash forecasts

• Proficiency in three-statement financial modeling
• Able to build cash and accrual-based forecasts

Implement and use various accounting software solutions

• Accounting ERPs (QuickBooks, Xero, NetSuite)
• Expense management (Expensify, Ramp, Concur, Bill)
• Billing (Ramp, Bill)
• Payroll (Gusto, JustWorks, Trinet, ADP)
• Sales platforms (Shopify, Amazon FBA)
• Merchant service platforms (Stripe, PayPal)
• Inventory software (Cin7, Fishbowl, SOS)

Demonstrate a strong accounting background and knowledge of GAAP

• Revenue Recognition (ASC606)
• Prepaid and Accrued Expenses
• Deferred Revenue
• Fixed Assets and Depreciation
• Lease Accounting
• Stock-Based Compensation
• Business Combinations
• Inventory, Manufacturing, Cost Accounting

Manage the tax process and maintain compliance with government agencies (working with tax partners)

• Annual federal income tax returns (C Corp, LLC, S Corp)
• Annual State filings and Franchise Taxes
• Local Business Registrations & Compliance
• Depreciation and Amortization and requisite schedules
• Sales and Use Tax
• R&D Tax Credits
• Net Operating Losses (NOLs)
• W9/1099 and W8/1042 implementation and execution

What you'll bring:

• Bachelor’s Degree required; Master's Degree preferred
• Concentration in Accounting or Finance preferred
• 10+ years of applicable experience in tech, CPG, and life science industries
• Big 4 or national and regional accounting experience preferred
• Strong knowledge of GAAP, accounting theory, principles and practices
• CPA preferred
• Microsoft Office proficiency
• Strong communication skills
• Strong time management skills
