Niyam IT is seeking a full time Controller to join our team. This position is hybrid to Fairfax, VA. The Controller provides senior-level financial leadership for the organization, overseeing all accounting operations and ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and compliance of financial reporting within a government contracting environment. This role is responsible for internal controls, audit readiness, financial strategy execution, and advising executive leadership while maintaining hands-on oversight of complex accounting functions.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Oversee full-cycle accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, expense reporting, and general ledger.
- Lead
monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including financial statements, reconciliations, and analyses. - Configure and manage Deltek Costpoint structures (orgs, segments, projects, accounts, PLCs, and charge codes) aligned with contract SOWs and modifications.
- Oversee client invoicing, indirect expense pools, rate structures, and variance analyses.
- Develop and monitor
annual budgets and rolling forecasts, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives. - Establish and maintain strong internal controls and ensure ongoing compliance with GAAP, FAR, CAS, and DCAA.
- Lead DCAA audit readiness, responses, and ongoing compliance initiatives.
- Drive automation, standardization, and continuous improvement across accounting and billing processes.
- Manage external financial audits and coordinate responses with auditors and stakeholders.
- Oversee tax compliance activities, including filings, payments, and year-end reporting.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and performance oversight for accounting staff.
- Serve as a
strategic advisor and business partner to the CFO and executive leadership.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- 8+ years of progressive accounting experience within government contracting.
- Expert-level understanding of GAAP, FAR, CAS, DCAA and federal procurement regulations
- Strong leadership, management, and supervisory capabilities.
- Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain
robust internal control systems. - Expertise in financial statement preparation, analysis, and executive-level reporting.
- Strong budgeting, forecasting, and indirect rate management skills.
- High ethical standards and sound professional judgment.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft 365, Deltek Costpoint, and integrated business systems.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and operate effectively in a regulated environment.
Preferred Education and Experience
- CPA or similar professional certification.
- 5+ years of Deltek Costpoint experience.
