About the Role: The Controller will oversee the full accounting cycle, including preparation of financial statements, tax compliance, audit management, and technical accounting tasks. The successful candidate will demonstrate deep expertise in complex accounting transactions, such as M&A entries and technical accounting memo writing. As an experienced leader, the Controller will ensure accuracy and compliance while also mentoring the accounting team. This role demands a highly technical, detail-oriented professional with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Location: Pleasanton, CA (onsite, Monday–Friday)
Reports to: CFO
Compensation: Base $200,000–$250,000 DOE (+ bonus/equity)
Your Impact:
- Accounting Cycle Management: 
- Oversee the complete accounting cycle, including general ledger, accounts payable and receivable, payroll processing, and month-end and year-end closing processes.
 
 - Financial Statement Preparation: 
- Prepare, review, and ensure the accuracy of all financial statements in compliance with GAAP. Provide insights on financial performance to support strategic decision-making by the CFO and executive team.
 
 - Complex Accounting Transactions: 
- Handle complex accounting areas such as M&A entries, purchase accounting, and revenue recognition.
 - Prepare and maintain technical accounting memos and documentation to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards.
 
 - Tax Compliance: 
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal tax regulations, including income, sales, and use tax filings. Stay updated on tax law changes and implement necessary adjustments to remain compliant.
 
 - Audit & External Reporting: 
- Serve as the main contact for external auditors, facilitating annual audits and ad-hoc reviews. Provide required documentation and explanations to auditors and stakeholders.
 
 - Internal Controls & Compliance: 
- Implement and monitor strong internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial reporting accuracy. Regularly update accounting policies and procedures to meet regulatory standards.
 
 - Team Leadership & Mentorship: 
- Supervise and mentor the accounting team, providing guidance on complex accounting issues and fostering a culture of development. Act as a technical accounting resource to the team for any challenging transactions.
 
 - Budgeting & Forecasting Support: 
- Collaborate with the FP&A team to provide historical financial data, insights, and support for budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
 
 - Systems Management & Process Improvement: 
- Maximize the efficiency of accounting software and tools, including NetSuite or similar systems, to enhance accounting operations. Continuously assess processes and recommend improvements for greater accuracy and productivity.
 
 - Ad-Hoc Reporting & Special Projects: 
- Prepare ad-hoc financial reports and analyses as requested by the CFO and executive team. Support strategic projects, including M&A activities, by providing accounting insights and technical expertise.
 
 
What Sets You Apart:
- CPA required; Bachelor’s in Accounting/Finance (Master’s a plus).
 - 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a Controller or similar role. Experience in SaaS, technology, or payment processing industries is a plus.
 - Technical Skills: 
- Deep understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, and compliance requirements.
 - Proficiency in NetSuite or similar ERP systems and advanced Excel skills.
 - Experience with complex accounting transactions, such as M&A accounting, technical memo writing, and purchase accounting.
 
 - Proven ability to manage external audits and work with auditors on complex transactions and documentation.
 - Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor an accounting team, fostering professional growth and a collaborative environment.
 - Strong attention to detail, with a focus on accuracy, analytical capabilities, and an ability to identify trends and process improvements.
 - Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain technical accounting concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
