Through acquisition over the past decade, the Wonderful Company has brought together an amazing wine portfolio with JUSTIN Vineyards and Winery, the leading winery in Paso Robles, Lewis Cellars, embarking on a massive expansion in its hospitality and wholesale operations. and Landmark Wine, a strong direct-to-consumer business.

As our wine business continues to evolve and grow, we are currently seeking a Controller to provide gold standard leadership and management of all accounting activities. The Controller is responsible for driving efficient and accurate accounting processes, systems, and policies, ensuring procedures comply with U.S. GAAP, and expected to own and continually improve our month-end close accounting processes, including review and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts (inventory, fixed assets, cash, etc.), winery production and cost accounting, and management of depreciation and amortization.

The Controller is an integral leader within the JUSTIN Finance team, expected to provide financial and accounting leadership, communicate effectively with senior management, and mentor and develop the Accounting team members. Key stakeholders include senior management, as well as business partners across The Wonderful Company, including Corporate Finance and Treasury, Tax, and IT.

Job Description

  • Direct daily operations of the accounting department and development of the team
  • Review all month‐end closing activities including general ledger maintenance, balance sheet reconciliations, and cost allocations; and prepare monthly and quarterly financial statements
  • Partner with FP&A, P&L, and cost center managers to ensure transaction accounting provides data necessary to monitor and analyze monthly operating results, and to explain variances against budget in actionable terms
  • Administer Sales & Use Tax accounting, wine compliance reporting process, as well as handling business licenses including wine permits, and all government finance filing requirements for wineries
  • Liaise with Corporate Treasury to properly forecast and manage cash balances
  • Lead reconciliation of GAAP to Management financials
  • Utilize Oracle financial systems to develop, test, and implement value-added reporting tools, ensure proper controls are in place, and identify and implement system enhancements, with a goal of enabling our people to eliminate waste, better utilize talent and skills, and reduce time spent on manual processes
  • Drive key performance indicators and ongoing process improvement opportunities, for both the wine business as well for TWC-wide initiatives
  • Advance team’s technical capabilities and business acumen while modeling TWC’s values – Nourish & Develop, Adapt & Grow, Work Together, Play to Win, Do What’s Right

Qualifications

  • Possess 10+ years of senior-level technical accounting and leadership experience
  • Proven strong working knowledge of manufacturing cost accounting and associated GAAP matters; experience in Wine, Beverage, or CPG is a plus
  • Deep understanding of automated financial and accounting reporting systems – Oracle Fusion and Oracle Financial Consolidation & Close Cloud (FCCS) experience is a plus
  • Excellent accounting background and knowledge of accounting and finance compliance, month end closing, general ledger, chart of account design, budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis
  • Highly skilled in analyzing financial data and preparing financial reports, statements, and projections within required deadlines, as well as in developing systematic and scalable solutions to support deliverables
  • Experience with preparing, coordinating, and conducting audit activities with Big 4 auditors, as well as bank audits
  • Robust and meticulous analytics and systematic thinking, with a keen eye for continuous improvement in processes and deliverables
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication, executive presentation, organizational, and teamwork skills
  • Proven ability to manage and motivate geographically dispersed teams to produce quality materials within tight timeframes, and to simultaneously advance multiple projects
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, Economics, Statistics, or related field, CPA preferred
  • Availability to travel between our offices and our wine businesses up to 20%, within California

Pay Range: $180,000 - $195,000 and may include a discretionary bonus. Final compensation will be dependent upon skills & experience.
