About Almost Family
Almost Family provides in-home care and services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) across Oregon, San Diego, and Colorado. Our care teams support thousands of clients and families every day. Our finance team keeps that work funded, compliant, and growing.
About the Role
We’re hiring a Controller to own every finance function at Almost Family: accounting, payroll, billing, reporting, cash, budgeting, and controls, across several legal entities and business units. You’ll lead the payroll and accounting team, run a disciplined close, and give leadership clear, timely numbers to make decisions with.
You’ll report directly to executive leadership. We want an operator who builds structure (checklists, controls, tracking tools, clear ownership) and still rolls up their sleeves when a hard problem comes up. In your first year, you’ll set up a finance system that can scale with the company.
This is our senior finance role. We’re hiring someone we expect to grow into our CFO as the company expands.
Where This Role Is Headed
Your first priority is a strong foundation: a fast, clean close, reliable reporting, tight controls, and a successful NetSuite launch. As that foundation holds, your scope will grow into strategic finance, including capital planning, banking and lender relationships, growth and acquisition analysis, and serving as leadership’s financial partner on major decisions. We want a Controller who wants that path and is ready to earn it.
What You’ll Do
Accounting, Close, and Reporting
- Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close, including the calendar, reconciliations, and reporting deadlines
- Prepare and review GAAP financial statements (income statement, balance sheet, cash flow) for each entity and on a consolidated basis
- Post and review journal entries, accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, and depreciation
- Handle intercompany billing, cost allocations, and balancing across all subsidiaries
- Produce management reports by entity, location, and service line that explain variances in plain language
Payroll
- Oversee biweekly payroll through our third party processor, including regular runs, final checks, and off cycle payments
- Keep us compliant with federal, Oregon, California, and Colorado wage and hour rules, tax withholding, paid leave programs, and garnishments
- Analyze labor costs, which are our largest expense
Billing, Revenue, and Cash
- Oversee billing and remittance for Medicaid, state program, private pay, and other payer sources
- Monitor AR aging and work with operations to resolve denials, billing errors, and collection delays
- Maintain cash flow forecasts and manage working capital and liquidity
Budgeting, Analysis, and Strategic Finance
- Lead the annual budget with leadership and location managers, and maintain rolling forecasts
- Build financial models for growth initiatives, new markets, rate changes, acquisitions, and capital decisions
- Track key indicators (margins, labor cost ratios, revenue trends, DSO) and recommend actions to improve profitability
- Present financial results and recommendations to ownership and executive leadership
- Build relationships with banks, lenders, and financial partners, and support financing and due diligence work as the company grows
Controls and Compliance
- Design and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, segregation of duties, and approval workflows
- Prepare and deliver required reports to state agencies and other external parties
- Serve as the main contact for our outside CPA firm on quarterly reviews, tax estimates, annual filings, and the annual audit
- Manage 401(k) and benefit plan administration with providers
Team Leadership and Systems
- Lead, train, and develop the payroll, accounting, and billing staff, assign ownership of every recurring process, and review their work
- Build a finance team structure that can scale, including future hiring and succession for the Controller seat
- Lead our migration from QuickBooks Online to NetSuite, including vendor selection support, chart of accounts redesign, entity and intercompany setup, data conversion, and team training
- Find process gaps and fix them through automation, better workflows, and clean documentation once NetSuite is live
What You’ll Bring

Who Thrives Here
You take ownership of the numbers. You catch problems early, ask good questions, and bring solutions rather than just reports. You care about clean books because you understand that accurate finances keep care workers paid and clients served. And you want to do more than close the books: you want a seat at the table when decisions about the company’s future get made.
Compensation and Benefits
$120,000 to $150,000 per year depending on experience and qualifications, plus health benefits, PTO, and a 401(k). Compensation grows as the role expands.
How to Apply
Submit your resume and a short note on your accounting leadership experience. Include your CPA status, the accounting systems and ERPs you’ve used (including any NetSuite implementation work), the largest multi entity close you’ve owned, and where you see your career in the next five years.
