The Hotel Controller is responsible for overseeing all financial operations of the hotel, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting while maintaining compliance with company policies and accounting standards. This position provides strategic financial guidance to the General Manager and department leaders by analyzing financial performance, managing internal controls, and driving profitability.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesFinancial Management- Oversee all accounting functions including Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Payroll, General Ledger, Cash Management, and Fixed Assets.
- Prepare and review monthly financial statements, balance sheet reconciliations, and management reports.
- Ensure timely month-end and year-end close processes.
- Monitor daily revenue reporting and verify revenue integrity.
- Analyze financial performance and provide recommendations to improve profitability.
- Prepare annual operating budgets and financial forecasts.
- Review departmental expenses and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Maintain accurate cash flow forecasts and banking relationships.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and company accounting policies.
- Maintain strong internal controls to safeguard company assets.
- Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, and regulatory reporting.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local financial regulations.
- Manage sales tax, occupancy tax, and other required filings.
- Maintain fixed asset records and depreciation schedules.
- Partner with department leaders to review labor costs, operating expenses, and revenue trends.
- Participate in weekly executive meetings and financial reviews.
- Provide financial analysis for capital projects and operational initiatives.
- Monitor purchasing procedures and inventory controls.
- Support revenue management by reviewing room revenue, ADR, RevPAR, and forecasting.
- Oversee payroll processing for accuracy and compliance.
- Review labor reports and productivity metrics.
- Ensure payroll taxes and benefit deductions are properly processed.
- Work closely with Human Resources regarding employee records and payroll compliance.
- Supervise and develop accounting team members.
- Establish departmental goals and performance expectations.
- Provide training and coaching on financial policies and procedures.
- Foster a collaborative relationship with all hotel departments.
