General Description

The Controller is responsible for all accounting functions of the Nation, including financial reports, supervising accounting staff, assistance in budget development, maintaining accounting system, review and implementation of internal controls, and other duties as assigned by the Treasurer.

  • Minimum education - Bachelor’s degree with Accounting major required.   Certified public accountant preferred
  • Minimum  ten years accounting and finance experience, preferably in governmental accounting
  • Minimum  five years supervisory experience
  • Must have excellent analytical skills
  • Must maintain a professional attitude and appearance that positively represents the Nation
  • Requires a high level of personal integrity and ethics
  • Requires a high level of problem solving skills
  • Requires familiarity with grant writing, administration, and compliance with grant regulations Requires familiarity with the concepts of project management
  • Requires familiarity with the concepts of budget development and compliance with Tribal budgets 
  • Requires familiarity with planning concepts and processes including but not limited to program planning 
  • Requires willingness and ability to learn new skills, including travel to conferences and training sessions
  • Must maintain confidentiality at all times
  • Requires in-depth knowledge of grant accounting and compliance with grant regulations including OMB circulars 
  • Requires strong budgetary and planning skills
  • Requires advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite products, particularly Excel 
  • Requires good interpersonal communication and team work skills
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check
  • Must be able to pass drug/alcohol testing
  • Must have a clean driving record – may be required to drive GSA or tribal vehicles

 

Skills Required
