Position Summary

The Controller serves as the senior finance leader and head of the Finance function, reporting directly to the COO. This role is responsible for the integrity, accuracy, and scalability of the company's financial operations while providing strategic insight that supports business decisions.

This is a highly visible role that combines leadership, analysis, and execution. The ideal candidate enjoys rolling up their sleeves to manage day-to-day accounting operations while also partnering with senior leadership on budgeting, forecasting, cash management, business planning, and organizational growth initiatives.

The Controller will lead all accounting functions, oversee financial reporting, manage internal controls and compliance, and build the processes and capabilities necessary to support the next phase of growth for the company.

What You'll DoStrategic Financial Leadership

· Partner with the COO and leadership team to provide financial insight and business guidance.

· Translate financial data into meaningful recommendations that support operational and strategic decision-making.

· Develop financial models and analyses to support investments, hiring decisions, project/company profitability, and operational improvements.

· Identify financial risks and opportunities and recommend appropriate actions.

Financial Reporting & Accounting

· Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting activities.

· Prepare and review accurate financial statements and management reports.

· Lead month-end and year-end close processes.

· Ensure the integrity of the general ledger and accounting records.

· Analyze financial performance and communicate key trends to leadership.

· Coordinate annual audits, tax engagements, and lead tax mitigation programs. 

· Provide actionable reporting on company performance, utilization, backlog, profitability, and cash flow.

Budgeting, Forecasting & Planning

· Lead the annual budgeting process.

· Develop and maintain financial forecasts and projections.

· Monitor performance against budget and forecast assumptions.

Cash Flow & Financial Management

· Monitor cash position and liquidity.

· Develop short- and long-term cash flow forecasts.

· Manage banking relationships and treasury activities.

· Recommend strategies to improve cash flow, working capital, and overall financial performance.

Controls, Compliance & Risk Management

· Establish and maintain strong internal controls.

· Coordinate annual audits and tax engagements.

· Ensure compliance with financial reporting requirements and applicable regulations.

· Maintain finance policies, procedures, and documentation.

· Support HR with payroll and benefit audits.

Team Leadership

· Lead, coach, and develop Finance team members.

· Establish clear goals, accountability, and performance expectations.

· Build scalable processes that support long-term organizational growth.

· Foster a culture of ownership, continuous improvement, and service to internal stakeholders.

Process Improvement & Technology

· Streamline financial processes and workflows.

· Improve reporting automation and data visibility.

· Partner with internal teams to optimize financial systems and tools.

· Ensure financial information is timely, accurate, and accessible.

Requirements

    

Required Qualifications

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

· 7+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.

· Experience leading accounting operations and financial reporting.

· Strong knowledge of budgeting, forecasting, cash management, and internal controls.

· Demonstrated leadership experience with direct reports and team development.

· Advanced Excel and financial systems expertise.

Preferred Qualifications

· CPA designation.

· Experience in professional services, engineering, architecture, consulting, or project-based organizations.

· Experience working directly with executive leadership teams.

· Experience driving process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives.
