The role
On offer: a unique opportunity to lead and influence industry‑defining projects that will shape the future of Auckland’s electricity network and support New Zealand’s broader energy transition. Play an important leadership role in Vector’s once‑in‑a‑generation uplift of real‑time systems, contributing to a 10‑year modernisation roadmap, the renewal of legacy infrastructure, and the transition to a next‑generation ADMS platform.
As a Control Systems Engineer/Senior Engineer, you will provide technical leadership to ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient monitoring and control of Vector’s electricity network. Operating across both BAU and project environments, you will work on configuration, testing, and commissioning of new substations and automation sites, uphold and evolve engineering standards, and drive continuous optimisation of system performance to support safe operational outcomes.
In this role, you will act as a key technical leader and advisor to the control room, engineering teams, and project stakeholders—shaping outage planning approaches, influencing customer‑centric operational improvements, and guiding the adoption of smarter, more automated decision‑making across the network.
We have the flexibility to appoint to this position at either Engineer or Senior Engineer level to reflect the level of experience of the successful candidate.
Who are we looking for?
- Bachelor degree in a related field, such as electronic/electrical engineering
- Strong understanding of automation and control systems, with experience in system design, configuration and commissioning
- Experience with SCADA and/or ADMS platforms, ideally within an electricity distribution environment
- GE PowerOn Advantage exposure is highly valued
- Industry experience from an EDB or relevant consultancy working on network projects
- Ability to mentor and support developing engineers, or the potential to grow into this over time.

But we don’t stop here - our reach extends to Australia and the Pacific Islands, shaping a new energy future for our customers, through innovative digital and engineering solutions, metering services, solar energy solutions, electric vehicle (EV) networks, high speed internet fibre, air and water purification to name a few.
We haven’t been afraid to challenge the status quo. As leaders of the transformation of the energy sector, we know the ‘same old’ just won’t cut it. We have the confidence to forge new solutions and for our people to work differently, to think differently. We have collaborated with global technology companies and thought leaders who share our view that innovation and digitalisation are key to meeting the future needs of energy systems and fast-evolving customer demands.
