As a Quantitative Research Business Control Manager - Vice President within the Markets QR team, you will spearhead the controls agenda, serving as the First Line of Defense to uphold a robust control environment. Your responsibilities will include identifying control gaps and weaknesses, and formulating strategies to rectify them. You will collaborate with the Quantitative Research, Trading, Model Risk and Governance, and Technology teams to evaluate, design, and implement sustainable solutions to mitigate model and operational risks. Your leadership will foster a proactive risk and control culture that utilizes proven evaluation strategies and effective change management protocols.
Markets QR BCM covers a variety of QR teams in Trading across the globe, including Equities, Rates, Fixed Income Financing (FIF), Currency Emerging Market (CEM), Credit Portfolio Group (CPG), Foreign Exchange (FX), Credit, Securitized Product Group (SPG), and Commodities. These teams offer estimation solutions to the trading desks, including models and tools used in valuation, electronic trade execution, risk and sensitivities analysis, counterparty credit exposures, and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML).
Job responsibilities

  • Analyze QR's control environment continuously to identify gaps and weaknesses through Risk & Control Self-Assessments.
  • Develop strategies to address identified risks and enhance the control environment; ensure controls are properly designed, implemented and are sustainable.
  • Track, report, and resolve identified control gaps and weaknesses, reviewing issues and action plans in CORE (Controls and Operational Risk Evaluation) to ensure timely resolution.
  • Review, challenge, and substantiate control ratings and risk results to ensure accuracy and reliability.
  • Ensure appropriate controls are in place to support new business initiatives and/or initiatives driven by regulatory or policy changes.
  • Facilitate the execution of various Front Office supervisory controls, attestations, and exception management.
  • Lead / Coordinate end-to-end audits, control testing, and regulatory exams or inquiries in partnership with business.


Required qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Deep understanding of operational risks and controls, with the ability to design, implement, and monitor effective control frameworks.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills; ability to conduct risk assessments, perform root cause analysis, develop mitigation strategies, and apply process re-engineering.
  • Possess an investigative mindset, able to see issues both at a high-level and in detail; understand their applicability to the business.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying complex information simply to diverse stakeholders across first, second and third lines of defense, as well as senior management.
  • Polished interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively challenge and build consensus across the organization.
  • Self-starter able to work independently with minimal instructions and proactively find answers, even when the solutions are not clear-cut.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritize tasks effectively, and deliver timely.
  • Act with confidence and good judgement, directly address conflicts and escalate issues where appropriate.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)


Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Relevant Financial service experience in a controls, audit, quality assurance, risk management, compliance or model governance function
  • Proficient knowledge of control and risk management concepts with the ability to design, create, and evaluate a Risk & Control Self-Assessment in conjunction with business partners
  • Understanding of model risks, development, and life cycle
  • Prior exposure to front office beneficial
