Job Description:

Job Summary

The Contract Manager is responsible for overseeing the end-to-end lifecycle of supplier contracts within the Indirect Procurement function at Boyd Group. This role includes drafting, negotiating, and managing agreements to ensure that all contracts align with corporate policies, regulatory requirements, and operational goals. The Contract Manager will work closely with internal stakeholders and external suppliers to optimize contract terms, manage risks, and secure value in the procurement process. This role requires a strong understanding of legal principles, supplier/vendor negotiations, commercial terms and conditions, business operations, and risk management. This role is a hybrid role and as such will work between the priorities of the corporate procurement department and the legal department. As a Legal resource, this role will serve as a trusted advisor and business partner to the company by providing legal advice and opinions to various stakeholders across the organization on a wide range of matters.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Contract Lifecycle Management: Manage the full lifecycle of contracts, from initial drafting and negotiation through execution, renewal, and termination. Ensure that contracts are compliant with corporate standards and relevant regulations.
  • Negotiation & Risk Mitigation: Support negotiations with suppliers and service providers, in collaboration with Indirect Procurement Category Managers and cross-functional teams, to secure favorable terms and pricing. Identify potential risks, develop mitigation strategies, and ensure that contracts protect the organization’s interests.
  • Compliance & Governance: Establish and enforce robust compliance frameworks to ensure that all contractual agreements meet legal and regulatory requirements. Maintain accurate records and support internal audits and reviews. Maintain corporate records.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Partner with procurement, legal, finance, and business teams to align contract terms with operational needs and strategic objectives. Provide guidance and training on contract management best practices.
  • Supplier Relationship Management: Serve as the primary point of contact for contractual matters (actively collaborating with legal when needed), managing contract-related relationships with key suppliers. Oversee performance monitoring and resolution of disputes or contractual issues.
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline contract processes, enhance digital contract management tools, and implement best practices to improve efficiency and reduce cycle times.
  • Performance Reporting: Develop and maintain dashboards to track contract performance, key milestones, and compliance metrics. Present regular updates to senior leadership regarding contract status and opportunities for improvement.
  • M&A Support: Supporting corporate development M&A activities, including business acquisitions and greenfield/brownfield development projects.
  • General Legal Activities: Conduct legal research, provide advice and present recommendations on various legal and business issues. Monitor and advise on changes to laws and regulations which affect the company’s business. Support the resolution of disputes that arise in the operation of our business and support litigation and pre-litigation matters.

Minimum Education and/or Experience Required for the Job

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law, Business, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of contract management experience, preferably within Procurement in a complex, multi-site organization.
  • Strong background in contract negotiation, legal aspects of agreements, and risk management.
  • Demonstrated experience working with cross-functional teams to implement contract management best practices.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Contract Negotiation: Proven expertise in drafting, negotiating, and managing contracts, ensuring that terms and conditions maximize value and mitigate risk.
  •  Legal & Regulatory Acumen: Solid understanding of legal frameworks and regulatory requirements that impact supplier contracts, with the ability to interpret and enforce such guidelines. Ability to strike a sensible and practical balance between legal risk and business needs.
  • Analytical & Detail-Oriented: Strong attention to detail and analytical skills to identify contract issues, optimize terms, and ensure accurate documentation throughout the contract lifecycle.
  • Collaboration & Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively manage internal stakeholders and supplier relationships. Ability to train teams on contract management practices.
  • Project & Process Management: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple contract projects simultaneously while driving process improvements and adhering to deadlines. Ability to organize, prioritize and manage deadlines.

Preferred Education and/or Experience

  • Digital Savvy: Proficiency with contract management software (including ability to proactively present new opportunities to leverage technology to streamline processes to senior leadership for review), and Microsoft Office/Google Suite applications to support digital documentation and reporting.

  • Travel & Location: Boyd has corporate offices in Chicago, IL and Winnipeg, Canada. Preference is to be located in one of those areas, however, work from home is acceptable. Occasional travel may be required to visit supplier sites, attend industry events, or participate in meetings at Boyd Group’s corporate offices.
  • Tools & Technology: Experience with digital tools for contract creation, storage, and lifecycle management is essential, ensuring efficiency and transparency in procurement processes.
  • Compliance & Continuous Learning: Commitment to staying updated with changes in contract law and procurement regulations. Participation in relevant training and professional development is encouraged.
  • Oversight: Capable of working independently and with minimum supervision

Compensation Details:

$110,000 - $140,000 / Year

Compensation is commensurate with skill, education and experience. 

Supplemental Pay: 

This position may also be eligible for Bonus opportunities tied to individual or business initiatives.
