The Role

We are seeking a Contract Senior Network Engineer to provide network engineering and Tier 3 support for our client's data centers and cloud networks across multiple locations.


The ideal candidate is a strong technical engineer with hands-on experience in the design, configuration, and deployment of routing/switching and firewall technologies (Cisco, Arista, Palo Alto).


This is a hybrid position and is required to be on-site at our client's offices in McLean, Virginia 3x/week. Additionally, this role has an on-call rotation schedule, but is expected to be flexible to to assist Network Operations during major outages as needed.

Role and Responsibilities

  • Design, deploy, and maintain the data center network infrastructure, ensuring high availability and performance
  • Support Palo Alto Networks products, with a focus on Next-Generation Firewall and Panorama
  • Implement and configure routing protocols (BGP, OSPF) and switching technologies (VPN, VxLAN, Spine-Leaf topology, 802.1Q, VRF, L2) to support diverse applications and services
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand networking requirements and provide effective solutions
  • Learn and develop automation scripts using Ansible and/or Python to streamline network provisioning, configuration, and monitoring tasks
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and perform root cause analysis to resolve incidents promptly
  • Participate in capacity planning, network security, and disaster recovery strategies; document relevant SOPs/Visio for network repositories
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and best practices in data center networking and automation
  • Diagnose, solve, and provide root cause analysis for network-related issues; determine how to improve MTTD and MTTR
  • Coordinate with Operations on the design, build, and production readiness of network, security, and voice infrastructure solutions to support mission critical production environments
  • Mentor junior operations and engineering team members
  • Provide technical guidance to project teams; design and lead complete network solutions reviews
  • Explain technical solutions and challenges in a simplified, meaningful way to a variety of stakeholders
  • Flexible to to assist Network Operations during major outages (outside of on-call rotation schedule) as needed

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • 5-7 years of relevant experience in IT network engineering, network security and/or operations
  • Proven experience as a Network/Security Engineer, with a focus on data center routing/switching and firewalls
  • Proficient in configuring and troubleshooting equipment from major vendors (Arista, Cisco, Palo Alto)
  • Strong understanding of routing and switching protocols (BGP, VXLAN, EVPN, Spine-Leaf topology)
  • Knowledge of network monitoring and management tools (SNMP, NetFlow, syslog)
  • Experience with automation tools such as Ansible and programming languages such as Python
  • Excellent problem-solving skills; ability to work well under pressure in a dynamic, team environment
  • Ability to effectively collaborate and communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Solid understanding of network protocols and firewalls
  • Familiarity with cloud service and technology infrastructure
  • Proactive and self-motivated with a strong drive to achieve personal goals, learn, and grow
  • Ability to work independently with minimal oversight
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proactive; driven by the goal of customer satisfaction
  • Innovative in providing solutions; enjoys taking on challenges with calculated risk
  • A fast learner; proven success picking up new technologies/tools quickly and proficiently
