Working closely with Sales, CSO, Business Planning, Finance, and Legal, the role ensures that commercial processes, customer engagement standards, and organisational governance are consistently applied and adhered to. The role supports the structuring and review of commercial proposals but holds no responsibility for pricing decisions.
Legal retains full ownership of legal terms, legal risk assessment and approval of any non-standard contractual provisions. The Contract Specialist ensures early Legal engagement, clear communication of commercial risks, and adherence to contract governance processes across the business, including escalation of contractual deviations or complex legal issues to the Legal team.
- Translate agreed commercial terms of contracts into delivery requirements and SLA expectations for the assigned commercial contracts and offerings, working closely with Sales, Service and Operations teams.
- Ensure all commercial activities follow defined governance processes and approval frameworks. Act as a central coordination point between Sales, Finance, Customer Services & Operations, Business Planning and Legal
- Support Sales in structuring and negotiating customer agreements using approved Canon templates, playbooks and governance frameworks. Lead commercial discussions with customers where appropriate while ensuring Legal involvement where contractual deviations, legal risk, or complex contractual issues arise.
- Support Tender team to identify contractual risks, proposed mitigations and escalate issues for tender submission
- Assist with contract execution, amendments, renewals and terminations ensuring accurate documentation
- Act as a point of contact for internal stakeholders on all contract related matters
- Identify commercial risks early and work closely with Legal to support effective mitigation
- Maintain consistent commercial standards across customer engagements and internal decision making. Ensure key commercial decisions are informed by robust analysis and clear communication.
Personal Specification e.g. Technical skills, knowledge, experience required
- Ideally from a commercial contracting background with technical knowledge, legal contracting understanding and able to demonstrate the ability to manage - contractual negotiations.
- Commercial contracting and negotiation experience, with the ability to operate within established legal templates, playbooks and governance frameworks.
- Understanding of contract law, commercial terms and negotiation skills
- Team player who can develop a productive relationship with colleagues across the channel and wider organisation, including CEL.
- Both business and commercially minded
