Brooks Instrument, a global manufacturer of flow and pressure measurement and control products for critical applications, and a division of ITW (A Fortune 200 Company) is seeking candidates for a Continuous Improvement Quality Engineer This position will be based out of our headquarters facility in Hatfield, PA (Suburban Philadelphia). In addition to our Pennsylvania operations, Brooks maintains manufacturing locations in, Hungary, and Korea. The Company also maintains sales offices throughout the world. Our products are used in laboratory and process applications in end markets such as: life sciences, chemicals, semiconductor, analytical instruments, nuclear, and solar cells.
Job Description
Basic Function
The Continuous Improvement Quality Engineer, plays a critical role in optimizing processes, solving quality challenges, and enhancing customer satisfaction. This position works cross-functionally in a dynamic manufacturing environment while contributing toward operational excellence.
Serves as the point of contact for the quality department, supporting the development, application, and maintenance of quality standards for processing materials into finished product. Receiving general oversight from the department manager, one must be capable of advanced decision-making in the manager’s absence. Major challenges include support of the division quality function concurrent with:
- Business growth
- Best business practices
- Introduction of new products and processes
- Meeting division continuous improvement goals
- Achieving customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead quality improvement initiatives to reduce defects, scrap, and rework, using tools like Statistical Process Control (SPC) and FTB (Front to Back) methodologies and Six Sigma principles.
- Develop, implement, and maintain quality standards for manufacturing processes, ensuring compliance with ISO 9001 and other relevant certifications.
- Develop and track key performance indicators (KPIs) and lead projects related to quality and continuous improvement, such as first-pass yield, cycle time, and customer complaint resolution.
- Ensure fulfillment of copy exact requirements, where applicable.
- Support and promote Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) activities.
- Apply root cause analysis tools (e.g., 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams) to address recurring quality and operational issues, and ensure effective corrective actions.
- Collaborate with supply chain and supplier quality teams to improve incoming material quality and reduce waste.
- Conduct quality audits and internal audit assessments as needed to identify and address areas for improvement.
- Collaborate with engineering, production, and supply chain teams to resolve quality issues and implement corrective actions.
- Support customer in 8D responses and regular quality resolution update meetings.
- Provide training and guidance to teams on quality tools, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement techniques.
- Initiate engineering deviation requests and product change notices.
- Develop sampling plans, design forms for recording, evaluating, and reporting quality data, and write instructions on the use of such forms.
- Prepare slides for regular Quality review meetings. Participate in regular quality improvement meetings.
- Participate/support customer visits, surveys, and audits.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
- A bachelor’s degree in engineering, quality, or a related field.
- 2+ years of experience in quality engineering, continuous improvement, or a related field, in a manufacturing or testing environment preferred.
- Proficiency in quality tools and techniques such as SPC, 8D, FMEA, and control charts.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in data analysis software (Power BI, Minitab, or similar).
- Familiarity with ISO 9001 standards and quality management systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and a collaborative mindset to drive cross-functional improvement initiatives.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present data effectively.
- Knowledge of MS Office including Excel, Word, Outlook required.
- Awareness of statistical principles.
- Attention to detail and ability to work in a dynamic and changing environment.
- Ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing.
- Must be diplomatic and sensitive in all communications with external contacts (Customers, Suppliers, Registrars, Assessors/Auditors, etc.) when coordinating quality improvement and corrective action activities.
