ThermoFisher is seeking a Continuous Improvement Engineer to join our Heysham team. We are looking for a self-starter who thrives on challenging the status quo and turning ideas into lasting improvements. This is a key role, responsible for leading initiatives that optimise operational performance and embed continuous improvement practices across the site. Your contribution will support our mission to make the world healthier, cleaner, and safer.

What You Will Do
  • Translate strategic goals into measurable improvement initiatives, identifying and delivering projects that enhance efficiency, reduce waste, and generate cost savings.

  • Facilitate Kaizen events, lead Gemba-based execution, and apply Lean and Six Sigma methods (e.g. Value Stream Mapping, 5S, PDCA, DMAIC) to achieve sustainable results.

  • Partner with cross-functional teams to implement and embed improvements that align with site priorities and long-term strategy.

  • Provide change leadership by coaching colleagues, building capability, and embedding a continuous improvement mindset across the organisation.

  • Manage the improvement funnel, prioritising projects, reviewing progress, and driving accountability for delivery.

  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels, adapting style to influence, engage, and secure commitment.

  • Ensure improvements are compliant, safe, and support the site’s long-term operational reliability.

What We Need From You
  • Proven experience in process optimisation and applying continuous improvement tools to support business objectives.

  • Strong analytical skills with a track record of data-driven decision-making.

  • Self-driven, with the ability to independently identify and act on opportunities for improvement.

  • Demonstrated success in leading Kaizen events and driving Gemba-based improvements.

  • Solid working knowledge of Lean and/or Six Sigma methodologies (e.g. PDCA, DMAIC, Value Stream Mapping, 5S).

  • Proficiency in root cause analysis techniques (e.g. 5 Whys, Fishbone diagrams, 5W1H).

  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching ability, and collaborative approach.

  • Excellent communication skills across functions and organisational levels.

  • High attention to detail and commitment to delivering results.

  • Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or above) – preferred.

  • Experience in chemical repacking – preferred.

  • Knowledge of process automation and related applications – an advantage.

  • Track record of building and sustaining a culture of continuous improvement.

  • Strong understanding of supply chain, equipment operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
