ABOUT THE JOB:

The staff writer works as part of the ConsumerAffairs editorial team to produce buying guides and articles that help millions of consumers make confident decisions every day. The staff writer is responsible for researching and writing content across a variety of industries and topics covered on ConsumerAffairs.com.

Your typical day-to-day will involve diving deep into industry research, interviewing experts and understanding what makes consumers tick. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders across the organization to deliver highly-engaging content that draws in the right audience and inspires readers to take action. Subject matter expertise is nice but not required for the role — subject matters you may cover include home financing, company profiles, product reviews, auto warranties, and a range of financial products.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Write an average of 3-5 articles per week
  • Fact-check and properly source all work prior to publication
  • Interpret keyword research from our SEO team to create article outlines and write content that not only delivers great content for readers but is also optimized for SEO
  • Work with editorial team to update content throughout the year
  • Make complex topics easy to understand so writers and editors can deliver high-quality articles
  • Identify consumers’ needs and recommend new topics
  • Collaborate with editors and SEO to ensure content meets editorial standards
  • Meet deadlines set by managing editor

Requirements

Education/Licensure/Certification:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Marketing, English or relevant field or equivalent experience

Experience:

  • Proven work experience as a content creator, writer, copywriter or similar role
  • Portfolio of published work
  • Demonstrated subject matter expertise is preferred but not required for the role — subject matters you may cover include home financing, company profiles, product reviews, auto warranties, and a range of financial products.

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Excellent writing and research skills
  • Familiarity with SEO
  • Strong understanding of AP style
  • Open to feedback and a team player
  • General understanding of content marketing best practices

  • Location: Remote
  • Frequency of travel: Occasional travel may be required for meetings, training and/or conferences.
  • Light physical activities and efforts required when working within an office environment.
