About the job
The Red Hat Customer Content Services team is looking for an experienced Senior Technical Writer to join our Red Hat Ansible Product Documentation team in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will be part of a team that promotes customer loyalty and success through content development and delivery. You will create and be responsible for customer-facing technical documentation that accompanies Red Hat's offerings, which will be made available online through the Red Hat Customer Portal. You will define the scope, test the quality, and deliver writing projects while maintaining a customer focus by participating in existing feedback programs and consistently developing your technical expertise. Drawing from your passion for both technology and communication, you will work closely with developers, engineers, field teams, support engineers, and other subject matter experts to create and edit content that helps our customers understand our offerings and find the best solutions for their needs.
What you will do

  • Work closely with content strategists, engineering project teams, support teams, upstream community members, and other stakeholders to create and maintain high-quality documentation for upcoming releases of Red Hat's offerings
  • Effectively manage documentation projects and deliver customer-focused and goal-oriented documentation
  • Engage and collaborate with customer feedback programs to address content gaps, respond to direct customer feedback, and promote continuous improvement of the documentation experience
  • Keep up to date with changes to our offerings, customer use cases, and support issues
  • Provide consulting to other technical writers to help improve their content through peer reviews
  • Master the use of our versioning systems like GitHub and GitLab and issue-tracking tools like Jira


What you will bring

  • Understanding of and experience using version control systems
  • Expertise in software and documentation development life cycles
  • Experience with topic-based authoring and modular documentation
  • Experience with the Linux command line
  • Experience using a writing style guide
  • Experience with lightweight markup languages including AsciiDoc is a plus
  • Experience contributing to open source projects is a plus
