Who is the Managing Editor, Personal Finance? They’ve covered personal finance and money, care a lot about protecting consumers, and have a vision for what best-in-class advice about financial products looks like. The Managing Editor, Personal Finance also knows how to deliver and is ready to lead this ambitious, years-long initiative. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:

  • Help hire team members for a new unit to scale coverage of financial services and personal finance
  • Work with the Chief Content Officer, other editors, and SEO leaders to create, update, and track an editorial calendar of that content
  • Help establish our voice, tone, and relationship with consumers in line with the broader ConsumerAffairs strategy of connecting consumers with companies in a “managed marketplace”
  • Help establish standards for clear thinking, comprehensiveness, accuracy, and distinctiveness in our financial-services content
  • Work with deputy editors, staff writers and freelancers to remove roadblocks that prevent progress
  • Work hand in hand with SEO to optimize content to win top positions on SERP
  • Guide assignment briefs for freelance and staff writers using keyword research from the SEO team
  • Ensure all published content meets company compliance standards
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with writers and editors to improve skills and work quality
  • Meet deadlines, honor schedules, coordinate resources in an effective and timely manner and demonstrate respect for others

Requirements

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Experience:

  • At least five years experience as a writer and/or editor covering money, personal finance or financial services
  • Previous managing editor experience preferred
  • Hands-on experience with content management systems a plus
  • Have edited and produced organic SEO content as a central part of the job
  • Experience creating and following an editorial calendar

Knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Extensive knowledge of AP style
  • Highest-level written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to recognize and understand how industries work and market trends
  • Exceptional analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Capable of clearly articulating needs in order to achieve goals

  • Location: Remote
  • Frequency of travel: Occasional travel may be required for meetings, training and/or conferences
