Creates accurate estimates to maximize up-front cash collections and adds collections documentation where required. Calculates patients' co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurance, providing personalized estimates of financial responsibility prior to service. Advises patients of expected costs, collects payments, or makes appropriate payment agreements. Attempts to collect patient cost-sharing amounts and outstanding balances before service when necessary.
Informs patients of convenient payment options and follows deferral procedures as required. Connects patients with financial counseling or Medicaid eligibility vendors and assists with Customer Service-related inquiries. Discusses financial arrangements for newborns with legal guardians, informs patients of the timeframe for enrolling a newborn in coverage, and provides necessary documentation. Performs cashiering functions such as collections and cash reconciliation with accuracy in support of pre-established legal and financial guidelines. Maintains a working relationship with clinical partners to ensure open communications between clinical, ancillary, and Consumer Access departments. Provides timely and continual coverage of assigned work area to offer prompt patient service and arranges relief coverage during extended time away from assigned registration area. Contacts insurance companies to obtain and verify insurance eligibility and benefits, correcting demographic, insurance, or authorization-related errors. Registers patients for all services, ensuring accuracy and consistently provides excellent customer service. Other duties as assigned.
- Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Mature judgement in dealing with patients, physicians, and insurance representatives. [Preferred]
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft programs including Excel and familiarity with database programs [Preferred]
