Position Summary
The Consultant, Business Process Management is a strategic partner within the Wealth Management Automation Strategy & Execution team, supporting assigned automation development and process improvement work from analysis and design through development, testing, implementation, and ongoing support. The role works independently in straightforward situations and collaborates across business, operations, technology, and risk teams to deliver practical, technology-enabled solutions that improve efficiency, strengthen controls, enhance stakeholder experiences, and support scalable growth using data, automation, AI, and the Microsoft Power Platform ecosystem.
Major Responsibilities
Strategic Consulting & Process Transformation
- Partner with business leaders and stakeholders to identify operational challenges and opportunities for process optimization, automation, and digital transformation.
- Review existing systems, processes, and business problems; conduct current-state assessments, process mapping, gap analyses, and feasibility studies to develop practical, sustainable solutions.
- Lead or support process improvement initiatives that enhance efficiency, scalability, risk management, controls, and service delivery.
- Prepare or refine business requirements and use technical experience, judgment, and precedent to resolve straightforward issues within established guidelines.
- Facilitate stakeholder engagement, prioritization, governance, and change management activities supporting strategic initiatives.
Automation Development, Testing & Support
- Analyze, design, develop, and support applications and workflow solutions that meet business and technical requirements and align with applicable technical frameworks, policies, and standards.
- Identify, develop, and implement automation solutions using Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint, and Dataverse, as well as RPA, Kofax, and other approved technologies.
- Coordinate testing, validate solution accuracy and completeness, support implementation activities, and provide ongoing project and technical support.
- Evaluate and implement AI-enabled solutions, including Microsoft Copilot Studio, intelligent agents, conversational automation, and generative AI technologies, using established governance practices.
- Prepare user guides, process documentation, training materials, and other supporting documentation as needed.
- Promote adoption of digital solutions and best practices across Wealth Management.
Project & Portfolio Management
- Complete assigned automation development and process improvement work accurately and on time by applying established guidelines, policies, procedures, and priorities.
- Develop project plans, manage timelines and work effort, coordinate resources, and monitor progress, risks, dependencies, and key deliverables.
- Communicate status, business outcomes, risks, and recommendations through transparent reporting and executive-level updates.
- Coordinate cross-functional activities involving Operations, Technology, Risk, Compliance, business leadership, peers, and immediate managers to support timely delivery.
- Review project activities and deliverables for accuracy, completeness, consistency, and alignment with established guidelines and policies.
Reporting, Analytics & Business Intelligence
- Design, develop, and maintain executive dashboards, operational reporting, KPIs, and performance measurement frameworks.
- Develop scalable reporting and visualization solutions using Power BI, Excel, and related technologies.
- Analyze business and operational data to identify trends, risks, capacity constraints, and opportunities for improvement.
- Translate complex data into meaningful insights and actionable recommendations for business leaders.
Knowledge, Skills & Capabilities
- Expanded conceptual knowledge of principles, practices, procedures, systems, and technical frameworks used in automation development and process improvement.
- Ability to analyze options and solve problems in straightforward situations by applying technical experience, judgment, and precedent.
- Strong analytical, organizational, project management, and stakeholder management skills, with attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to work independently on assigned responsibilities while collaborating effectively across business, operations, technology, risk, and compliance teams.
- Ability to identify process improvement opportunities and support sustainable, scalable, and policy-aligned solutions.
- Effective written, verbal, presentation, and documentation skills, including the ability to communicate with business teams, peers, immediate managers, and senior leadership.
- Ability to influence stakeholders and drive alignment without direct reporting authority.
- Technical proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power BI, Microsoft Power Platform, RPA, Kofax, Microsoft Office tools, and other job-related systems used for automation development, workflow, analytics, and reporting.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Copilot and Copilot Studio, AI agents, virtual assistants, or generative AI solutions is preferred.
Experience & Certifications
- Bachelor's/University degree in Business, Finance, Technology, Information Systems, or a related field, or a comparable combination of education, job-specific certification(s), and experience.
- Typically 3+ years of relevant experience supporting automation development, business process improvement, operational transformation, analytics, or strategic initiative delivery.
- Experience designing and implementing solutions using Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps and Power Automate.
- Experience creating business intelligence and reporting solutions using Power BI and advanced Microsoft Excel capabilities.
- ACCA or another relevant industry qualification may be required or preferred, as applicable.
Salary Range:
$74,200 - 126,200 USDSalary range is a good faith estimate of base pay. Northern Trust provides a comprehensive benefits package including retirement benefits (401k and pension), health and welfare benefits (medical, dental, vision, spending accounts and disability), paid time off, parental and caregiver leave, life & accident insurance, and other voluntary and well-being benefits. Northern Trust also provides a discretionary bonus program that may include an equity component.
