The Opportunity

We are seeking enthusiastic lawyers looking for an alternative legal career path to join our Conflicts team. This is a varied and challenging opportunity that will allow you to use your legal skill set in a strategic, commercial setting and provide you with a unique insight into the firm's global clients and sectors.
 

The Conflicts Team falls under the New Business and Enterprise Risk Department and sits at the intersection of legal ethics, professional responsibility, new business acceptance and firm risk. We are responsible for the global management of a conflicts of interest, securities trading approvals, information barriers, as well as a range of other legal professional responsibility compliance issues.
 

We play a key role in the development and shaping of firm strategy globally by liaising with Sector Lead Partners, Regional/Global Heads of Practice and Business Development to ensure that any new instructions comply with our professional obligations under the applicable Solicitors Conduct Rules and are a commercial fit for the firm.
 

We are open to applicants from any practice group and have opportunities at a variety of seniority levels, however, we require a minimum of 2 years of experience.

What you’ll do

  • Advising on the resolution of complex legal and commercial conflicts problems and liaising with Partners and staff in relation to conflicts issues and queries.

  • Advising on confidentiality issues and the design, implementation and maintenance of effective information barriers.

  • Ensuring compliance with global sanctions and Anti-Money Laundering obligations.

  • Reviewing, drafting and advising on conflicts-related provisions in engagement letters, panel arrangements, outside counsel guidelines, RFP responses, firm policies and other client terms.

  • Contributing to training, guidance notes and awareness initiatives for partners, lawyers and business services teams on conflicts, confidentiality, information barriers and other professional responsibility issues.

What you’ll bring

  • Admitted to practice as a Solicitor (in any area of law) in Australia or another jurisdiction in which HSF Kramer operates.

  • 2+ years' post admission experience with excellent research, technical and analytical skills.

  • A proactive approach with the ability to adapt to competing demands in a fast-paced environment.

  • A desire to work outside of traditional private practice in an alternative legal career.

  • Excellent communication skills and ability to demonstrate collegiality within a team.

  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to provide clear, practical and frank advice.

  • Is curious about new tech and open to learning, even better if you’re excited about AI!
