BAE Systems is looking for a Configuration Management Lead to join its Engineering team in Endicott, NY. The Configuration Management Lead will support engineering configuration management of aerospace Controls and Avionics Solutions and Power and Propulsion Systems. The candidate will regularly engage with engineers located in Endicott, NY and the production team located in Fort Wayne, IN. Job responsibilities for the position include:
Job Description:
  1. Responsible and accountable for all matters pertaining to program configuration management. Ensures compliance with company and program policies. Reviews technical requirements and develops program-specific Configuration Management Plan(s) as required.
  2. Directs the resolution of all configuration management issues relating to program contractual requirements and company policies and procedures. Prepares/oversees the publication and acceptance of Configuration Management process documentation.
  3. Leads the configuration management team by assigning daily and longer term task assignments to team members.
  4. Recommends actions related to hiring, performance evaluations, promotions, transfers, and training for all assigned configuration team members.
  5. Devises new techniques and approaches, their application and required parameters, in the solution of a wide variety of complex Configuration Management problems.
  6. Generates configuration management inputs to program cost proposals, ensuring that all configuration management contractual requirements are satisfied, costed and realistically scheduled.
  7. Establishes and maintains an effective working relationship with BAE Systems customers and their representatives. Prepares and presents status reports for configuration management activities as requested during customer and company program reviews. Performs all necessary interface and communication with customers, subcontractors, and program team members.
  8. Provides input to subcontractor statements of work, ensuring the implementation of a subcontractor configuration management system that meets all program and company configuration management requirements. Reviews, monitors and audits all subcontractor configuration management activities.
  9. Reviews functional plans and technical data items relating to product definition to ensure all configuration management requirements have been addressed and properly integrated within the requirements defined within the Program Configuration Management Plan(s).
  10. Ensures overall cost and schedule performance of all program configuration elements and provides timely status reporting to program and company management.
  11. Coordinates the evaluation, approval/disapproval and implementation of configuration changes throughout the life cycle of assigned programs.
  12. Supports all internal and customer conducted configuration audits for assigned programs.
  13. Mentors junior hardware configuration management specialists in tool usage and process execution. Demonstrates thorough expertise in hardware configuration management processes and/or tool usage.
  14. Responsible for creating the departmental metrics.
  15. Maintains current knowledge and proactively advocates configuration management tool and process best practices. Maintains knowledge across an area of generic Configuration Management specialization and is cognizant of developments in other related areas. May serve as departmental representative to process improvement teams.
  16. Ensure compliance with proprietary and export marking requirements.
  17. Serve as Configuration Management representative for internal and external audits such as FAA audits for Configuration Control and Change Process compliance and export compliance audits.

Required Skills:
  1. Exercises discretion and independent judgment in the performance of duties while complying with policies, procedures, appropriate principles and applicable state and federal laws and regulations
  2. Communicates effectively both orally and in writing
  3. Exhibits sound interpersonal skills involving interfacing, coordinating and negotiating with company personnel, customers, suppliers and auditors
  4. Utilize computer skills to prepare appropriate reports and documents
  5. Highly motivated and able to develop, disseminate and drive long range goals.
  6. Analyze, evaluate, develop and implement processes and systems within budget and schedule
  7. Demonstrated functional knowledge of hardware and software configuration management tools, best practices, and industry standards.
  8. Demonstrated ability to advise or direct project teams on proper configuration control for major programs or multiple smaller programs.
  9. Ability to think strategically about configuration management in support of engineering design and product support, and to lead process improvement projects to through to implementation.

Minimum Education and Experience
Associates Degree and 4+ years of related experience OR Bachelor's Degree and 3+ years of related experience OR 10+ years of configuration management experience
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Preferred Skills:
  1. Windchill administrative experience.
  2. Demonstrated ability to provide daily task assignments to a small team (5-8 members) and to lead team through long term tasks assignments and improvement projects.

Preferred Education and Experience
At least eight (8) years of experience in software and hardware configuration management and experience leading a small team in matters related to configuration control.
Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $72150 - $122655
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
