BAE Systems is seeking a Components Engineer for our Controls and Avionics Solutions (CAS) business located in Fort Wayne, IN. Being a trusted provider of commercial aircraft solutions, the CAS business also develops and produces highly reliable, adaptable, and scalable avionics solutions for the leading manufacturers of commercial aircraft and their propulsion systems. As a member of the BAE Systems' team, you will have the opportunity to work hands-on with complex electronic controls and solve challenging technical problems that both enhance our products performance and that matter to our customers.
In this Components Engineer role, the qualified candidate will be the engineering design support interface for electronic and/or mechanical components within the Fort Wayne factory. Responsibilities include.
  • Defining, evaluating, and maintaining component performance requirements.
  • Supporting value engineering projects with customers and suppliers to drive continuous improvement through cost / risk reductions and producibility / reliability enhancements.
  • Providing on-site design engineering guidance and support to the manufacturing, quality, and supply chain organizations (e.g. component investigations/root cause analysis and shortage / obsolescence mitigation)
  • Liaising with Design Engineering in Endicott, New York on design changes.
Performance in the role requires heavy engagement with Programs, Operations, and Supply Chain to support component performance, quality, reliability, and delivery issues.
Because this role involves a combination of collaborative/in-person and independent work, it will take the form of a hybrid work format, with time split between working onsite in the Fort Wayne, IN manufacturing facility and remote. Some light travel may be required (<10%)
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
  • BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent degree with 0-2 years' experience.
  • General understanding of electronic and mechanical components and their associated datasheets.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in problem solving and critical thinking.
  • Ability to interpret and implement requirements specifications.
  • General understanding of electronics manufacturing process.
  • Effective communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to coordinate and organize multiple activities in a team environment.
  • Familiarity working in a high-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with statistical process control techniques and analytical tools (ex. 6 Sigma).
  • Familiarity with electronic component programming processes and tools.

Pay Information
Full-Time Salary Range: $53122 - $90306
Please note: This range is based on our market pay structures. However, individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including, but not limited to: business considerations, local market conditions, and internal equity, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.

Skills Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or an equivalent field
  • 0–2 years of professional experience
