JOB SUMMARY

HexArmor is seeking a Compliance Specialist to support development and execution of our product compliance strategy. This new position will help ensure our products adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, industry standards, and internal policies by conducting audits, heading up HexArmor’s restricted substance control program, and training department stakeholders. 

As the Compliance Specialist, you will partner with the Compliance Manager to define and execute projects and initiatives to achieve our compliance goals. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams—operations, finance, marketing, product management—and work directly with suppliers and sales teams to deliver compliance solutions to internal and external customers.

LOCATION

Onsite at HexArmor Corporate Headquarters in Grand Rapids, Michigan (640 Leffingwell Ave. NE Grand Rapids, MI)

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Support execution and training of product compliance programs, including policies, procedures, and internal controls
  • Conduct product compliance risk assessments
  • Ownership and execution of HexArmor’s restricted substance control program
  • Product certification program administration
  • Staying up to date on relevant laws, regulations, and industry standards
  • Regulatory surveillance activities, including monitoring of emerging/changing regulations and performing impact assessments
  • Support identification of and addressing company compliance risks
  • Conducting regular audits and assessments to evaluate compliance
  • Work with Product Development and Product Management to ensure compliance characteristics are included in emerging products and services
  • Maintaining accurate records and documentation of compliance activities
  • Responding to compliance requests from internal and external customers

 COMPLIANCE AREAS

A list of relevant areas based on our business include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Product Safety, Performance Standards, OSHA PPE Mandates, ANSI ISEA, ASTM, NFPA, etc.
  • Product Markings, conformity and declarations
  • Consumer Labeling (FTC)
  • Chemical Safety (TSCA, Proposition 65, SVHC/REACH, and other global market regulations)
  • OEKO-TEX 100 Certification
  • Customs (CBP)

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Textile Engineering, or a related field
  • Equivalent experience in product and regulatory compliance or product development may be considered in lieu of a degree.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3+ years of demonstrated product compliance experience with a bachelor’s degree, OR 7+ years without a degree.
  • Familiarity with product development and product management processes, including design reviews, product certification, and/or compliance checkpoints.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, especially in risk assessment and regulatory impact evaluation.
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex regulations for non‑technical audiences.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Detail‑oriented, organized, and capable of managing multiple initiatives simultaneously.
  • Customer service mindset, including responsiveness to internal and external stakeholder inquiries.
  • Self‑directed, proactive, and comfortable navigating ambiguity.
  • Preferred: Product compliance experience in PPE, textiles, coatings, polymers, or other consumer/industrial goods subject to restricted substance or safety regulations.
  • Preferred: Experience collaborating with suppliers globally, especially in manufacturing environments.
  • Preferred: Experience with PLM systems as well as supporting or executing restricted substance control programs (RSL/MSL management, supplier documentation, testing plans)

Skills Required

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including regulatory impact and risk assessment
