Job Description

Summary: 

Serve as a primary contact for the branch in numerous compliance arenas (Customs, Trade, Expeditors Policy and Procedures) – often filling the role of a district “helpdesk” when our Operations teams are unsure of any applicable regulatory requirements or company policy/procedures potentially impacting their shipment.

Compliance Specialist Job-Specific Tasks and Duties:
This section lists high-level, job-specific tasks and duties that are completed on a regular basis by the Compliance team.
• Core Responsibilities
Completion of daily reviews via IDMA or EDMA (our import/export daily monitoring applications) and completion of daily Anti-Dumping and Countervailing Duty reviews. Ensuring proper use of our statement management reports and payment of our daily statement to US Customs. Review of all Powers of Attorney received by the branch for validity, as well as verification that our systems are accurately updated with the POA information and the document is properly stored in our internal, POA Tool. Verifying proper and timely filing of post entry activity, as well as hands on monitoring of the district’s TIB entries. All while simultaneously monitoring a plethora of additional ad hoc / exception reports to gauge the compliance health of the districts which may include TSA known shipper status, denied party screening, dangerous goods compliance, CBP/PGA rejects, and Customs Bonds. 
• District Resource 
Maintain knowledge about key Expeditors’ systems, including (but not limited to) GCI, CFIT, EDMS, ETMS, and expo Customs to assist in completion of your own tasks, but in supporting Operations where applicable. Assist in the enforcement of Expeditors Brokerage Operational Process Standards, Expeditors Customs Export Operational Process Standards, and other applicable company policies and procedures. Attend multiple monthly/weekly educational calls with CHQ on a variety of topics, across multiple products, to continue your education of policies, procedures, laws, and regulations. 

• CHQ Level Peer Groups + Testing
Involvement, as needed, with a variety of CHQ teams to provide feedback on process improvements or new tool rollouts, as well as an active participant in potential peer groups or beta testing. Past examples include PEMA (Post Entry Management Application) development and roll-out, the in-bond process revamp/project, the customs compliance playbook, and AD/CVD process overhaul. 
• Subject Matter Expert
The role requires a passion for Trade and Customs Compliance, with an innate sense of integrity. The requirement is not intended to mean you will always have the answer immediately available from memory – although you may get there – but to understand how to use your resources and find the appropriate answer for a given scenario. To achieve this, there are many training requirements that must be met/maintained while in the role:
DG Certified in Air/Ground, Ocean, and Import
Certified Import Compliance Specialist (CICS)
Licensed US Customs Broker (LCB)
Certified Export Compliance Specialist (CECS)
Export Compliance Specialist Certification (ECS)
Applicable TSA Trainings
Temperature Controlled Training for Air and Ocean
Denied Party Editor
Expeditors Power of Attorney


Possibility to work remote if in proximity to the branch. 

Qualifications

• Strong analytical abilities with research, problem solving, and follow-up skills
• Organization skills to manage multiple tasks to completion simultaneously without the aid of a workboard or workflow
• Proficient in the following programs: Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Outlook
• Detail oriented with the initiative to research and educate yourself on a vast array of topics, regulations, and processes
• Ability to articulate clearly through written and oral presentation
• Customer service skills (internal and external)
• Ability to work effectively across all levels of an organization interfacing with managers, supervisors, peers, and customers
