Position Overview

The Japan Compliance Manager plays a critical role in supporting and enhancing Stryker Japan’s Compliance Program. Reporting to the Japan Compliance Officer, this role is responsible for implementing, monitoring, and strengthening compliance controls, ensuring alignment with global compliance standards, and serving as a trusted partner to business stakeholders. The role requires strong judgment, communication skills, and the ability to operate independently in a highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement and continuously enhance Stryker compliance program in alignment with global and regional standards.
  • Support risk assessments, monitoring activities, and internal investigations.
  • Provide compliance guidance to commercial and functional teams, ensuring adherence to applicable regulations and company policies.
  • Lead training programs, communications, and awareness initiatives related to compliance.
  • Serve as subject-matter expert for HCP interactions, T&E, third‑party management, and promotional compliance.
  • Review and approve business activities requiring compliance oversight.
  • Coordinate with APAC Compliance and Global Compliance stakeholders on program execution.
  • Analyze compliance trends, prepare reports, and recommend process improvements.
  • Promote a strong ethical culture and support Speak Up engagement across Japan.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum 8-10 years of experience in business and working experience in compliance, legal, audit, risk management, or related fields is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of Japan compliance environment including HCP compliance, transparency, and industry codes.
  • Proven ability to prioritize, manage multiple projects, and influence cross‑functional teams.
  • Excellent communication skills in Japanese and business level in English.
  • High integrity, sound judgment, and ability to work independently.
  • Experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, or healthcare industry strongly preferred.

Reporting Line

  • Reports to: Japan Compliance Officer
  • Close collaboration with: APAC Compliance, Global Compliance, Japan Commercial & Functional Leaders.

Work Environment & Expectations

  • Overseas and domestic travel as needed.
  • Role requires high ethical standards and discretion in handling sensitive matters.
  • Expected to model Stryker values and champion compliance culture across Japan.
