We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Compliance & Credit Risk Specialist to join our client's team. This dual-focused role is critical in mitigating financial, regulatory, and credit risks within the dynamic and fast-paced marine fuel/bunkering sector. You will be responsible for ensuring strict regulatory compliance, conducting robust credit evaluations, managing counterparty exposure, and supporting basic trade finance operations to facilitate safe business growth.
Key Responsibilities1. Regulatory Compliance & KYC- Regulatory Adherence: Ensure full compliance with all applicable local and international regulations, with a strong focus on AML/CFT, sanctions, and maritime trade regulations.
- Counterparty Due Diligence: Perform robust Know Your Customer (KYC) and Customer Due Diligence (CDD) checks for onboarding new clients and conducting periodic reviews of existing ones.
- Risk Categorization: Assess and classify counterparties into high, medium, and low-risk profiles based on defined compliance frameworks.
- Transaction Monitoring: Actively monitor transactions for suspicious activities, flag potential anomalies, and escalate compliance breaches or risks in a timely manner.
- Audit Support: Maintain meticulous documentation in alignment with regulatory standards; support both internal and external audits to ensure flawless record-keeping.
- Market Intelligence: Stay abreast of evolving regulatory changes and global sanctions impacting marine fuel operations.
- Credit Evaluation: Conduct comprehensive credit assessments for new and existing customers, including in-depth financial analysis and risk profiling.
- Limit & Terms Management: Review, recommend, and establish credit limits and payment terms while continuously monitoring counterparty exposure in highly volatile markets.
- Exposure Monitoring: Track customer credit exposure daily to ensure strict adherence to approved limits and proactively recommend mitigation measures to reduce risk.
- Reporting: Prepare daily credit risk reports and distribute them to the Trading Department prior to the start of trading hours.
- Breach Coordination: Coordinate across departments when credit limits are exceeded, and secure ad-hoc management approvals in accordance with credit policy when justified.
- Aging Analysis: Monitor accounts receivable, proactively highlighting overdue accounts, payment delays, or potential default risks.
- Dispute & Collection Resolution: Partner with internal cross-functional teams and external parties to resolve outstanding payment issues and collection disputes.
- Stakeholder Alignment: Collaborate closely with the Accounts and Trading teams to balance effective risk management with business enablement.
- Trade Finance Support: Facilitate basic trade finance operations, including the issuance of Letters of Credit (LCs) and managing settlements/payments under LCs.
- Ad-Hoc Duties: Perform other related duties and special projects as assigned by management to support business agility.
Requirements
- Diploma/Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Maritime Studies, or related field.
- 3–5 years of direct credit risk experience and compliance, or trade finance.
- Strong financial analysis skills, including interpretation of financial statements, leverage metrics, and liquidity assessment.
- Experience assessing counterparty risk across traders, producers, processors etc.
- Strong communication skills to explain credit decisions clearly to traders, management and stakeholders.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced trading environment.
- Pragmatic and solutions-oriented mindset, balancing risk control with commercial objectives
- Integrity, attention to detail, and accountability.
- With A Trade Finance background will have an added advantage.
- Experience in bunkering, shipping, oil trading, or commodity trading is an advantage.
