The Environmental Compliance Specialist is responsible for ensuring the companies operations comply with local, state, and federal environmental hazmat regulations. This role involves working with cross-functional teams including but not limited to operations, legal, engineering, and sales. Additional responsibilities will include Regulatory Compliance, Environmental Audits and Inspections, Reporting and Documentation, Training and Awareness, Hazardous Materials Management, and provide guidance on best practices to mitigate environmental risk.
Responsibilities
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Monitor and ensure compliance with local, state, and federal environmental laws and regulations (e.g., air quality, water quality, waste management, hazardous materials handling).
- Assist in obtaining necessary permits and licenses for environmental operations.
- Stay updated on changes in environmental legislation and make recommendations to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Environmental Audits and Inspections:
- Conduct routine inspections and audits of facilities, operations, and processes to assess environmental performance and identify areas of non-compliance or risk.
- Develop audit plans, prepare reports, and recommend corrective actions.
- Reporting and Documentation:
- Prepare and submit required environmental compliance reports to regulatory agencies (e.g., air and water discharge reports, waste management documentation).
- Maintain accurate records of environmental compliance activities, inspections, permits, and audits.
- Training and Awareness:
- Provide training to employees on environmental compliance requirements, policies, and best practices.
- Foster a culture of environmental awareness and responsibility across the organization.
- Hazardous Materials Management:
- Support the development and implementation of emergency response plans for environmental incidents (e.g., spills, leaks, hazardous waste disposal).
- Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous materials and waste.
Experience
- 2-5 years of experience in environmental compliance or related field
- Knowledge of environmental regulations (RCRA EPA, EPA Medical Waste, DOT, PHMSA, HAZMAT, State-specific laws)
- Experience with permitting reporting, auditing, and compliance assessments
