Overview

The Compliance Automation Specialist serves as the dedicated information technology and data subject matter expert (SME) within the Compliance Testing function. The primary objective of this position is to bridge compliance testing requirements with the Bank’s data and technology environment — translating regulatory obligations and control expectations into repeatable, automated tests that leverage scripting and artificial intelligence (AI) to draw directly from source systems and data.

This role is central to the Bank’s shift to an automation-first testing model. The analyst will write and maintain scripts and apply AI-enabled tools to design, execute, and scale compliance tests across a large volume of regulatory obligations — reducing reliance on manual sampling while improving speed, consistency, and coverage. Applications include using AI to help interpret regulatory requirements, generate and refine test logic and code, analyze large data populations, and surface exceptions and anomalies for review.

This position is also the connective point between Compliance Testing and the enterprise Data and Information Technology teams. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable on both sides of the equation: they understand compliance and regulatory testing concepts and can also script, build, and validate automated and AI-driven test logic, and coordinate data access with IT and data engineering partners. Prior banking or financial services experience is essential to understanding the regulatory context, source systems, and data behind the Bank’s products and processes. All use of AI must be applied responsibly, with appropriate human oversight, documentation, and validation of results consistent with the Bank’s model risk and AI governance expectations.

What You’ll Do
  • Requirements Translation: Partner with compliance testing staff to translate regulatory obligations, control requirements, and manual test steps into automated, data-driven tests.
  • Scripting & AI-Driven Testing: Write, maintain, and optimize scripts and apply AI-enabled tools to design, build, and execute automated compliance tests that pull directly from core, loan, deposit, and ancillary source systems.
  • AI Enablement: Use AI to help interpret regulatory requirements, generate and refine test logic and code, analyze large data populations, and surface exceptions and anomalies for analyst review.
  • Data & IT Liaison: Serve as the single point of contact between Compliance Testing and the enterprise Data and IT teams; coordinate data access, source-system mapping, data dictionaries, and secure data extracts.
  • Data Sourcing & Integrity: Identify the authoritative data sources for each test, document data lineage, and confirm completeness and accuracy of populations used in testing.
  • Validation & Quality Control: Validate all automated and AI-generated test logic and results against expected outcomes and manual samples; investigate and resolve discrepancies before results are relied upon, applying appropriate human oversight to AI output.
  • Documentation: Document test logic, scripts, AI prompts and tools, data sources, assumptions, and procedures so that automated tests are transparent, repeatable, and audit- and exam-ready.
  • Responsible AI & Governance: Ensure AI and automation use aligns with the Bank’s model risk management, data governance, information security, and responsible-AI standards.
  • Continuous Improvement: Recommend and help implement tools, platforms, and process improvements that expand automated and AI-enabled testing coverage across the Bank’s regulatory obligations.
  • Audit & Exam Support: Support the Director and Chief Compliance Officer during internal audits and federal and state regulatory examinations by explaining automation and AI testing methodology and producing supporting evidence.
  • Reporting: Prepare periodic reporting on automation and AI coverage, test results, and metrics for senior leadership.
  • Special Projects: Support special projects as necessary.
  • Compliance Training: Participate in all required compliance training, including Bank Secrecy Act/anti-money laundering training, as well as internal and external training programs, online training, meetings, and seminars/conferences, etc.
  • Other Duties: This job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive list of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee. Other duties, responsibilities and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice.
Requirements For Success
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Data Analytics, Computer Science, Finance, Business, or a related field, or equivalent education and experience.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of combined experience across data analytics / information technology and regulatory compliance, audit, or testing, including hands-on experience with scripting and automation. Banking or financial services experience is required.
  • Required Skills:
    • Demonstrated familiarity with both sides of the equation — compliance/regulatory testing concepts and data/technology tools — with the ability to translate between the two.
    • Hands-on scripting experience (e.g., SQL and Python) to build, automate, and maintain data-driven tests.
    • Practical experience applying AI tools (e.g., large language models or other machine-learning / generative-AI tools) to analyze data, generate or refine code and test logic, or otherwise increase efficiency, with an understanding of their limitations and the need for human validation.
    • Prior banking or financial services experience, including working knowledge of core, loan, and deposit systems and the data they produce.
    • Proficiency working with relational databases and large data sets.
    • Understanding of consumer and deposit banking regulations and how regulatory requirements translate into testable controls.
    • Strong analytical skills; ability to exercise sound judgment, identify issues, and proactively resolve problems.
    • Excellent MS Excel skills; strong overall computer proficiency (Word, PowerPoint).
    • Strong communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence without authority; well-organized, accurate, and attentive to detail.
  • Preferred Skills:
    • Experience building AI-enabled or machine-learning workflows, including prompt engineering, model evaluation, or use of AI within a testing or audit setting.
    • Experience with data visualization or BI tools (e.g., Power BI) and workflow / automation platforms.
    • Familiarity with GRC, compliance testing, or data governance platforms, and with model risk management or responsible-AI frameworks.
    • Experience integrating or reconciling data across multiple systems, including post-acquisition or legacy environments.
    • A relevant data / analytics / AI credential a plus.
