Purpose of Role
Responsible for identifying, investigating, and mitigating suspected fraudulent activity across mortgage loan origination and servicing processes. Follows established investigation procedures to evaluate risk, document findings, and support the organization’s compliance and risk management objectives.
Key Responsibilities and Expectations
- Conducts investigations into suspected mortgage fraud across origination and servicing, including misrepresentation, identity theft, and income or asset falsification.
- Reviews loan files, servicing records, and supporting documentation to identify inconsistencies and potential fraud indicators.
- Analyzes internal systems and external data sources, including LexisNexis, to validate borrower and transaction information.
- Follows established procedures and guidelines to assess fraud risk and determine appropriate escalation actions.
- Documents investigative activities and findings in a clear, accurate, and audit-ready format.
- Collaborates with underwriting, servicing, compliance, and risk teams to resolve fraud-related issues.
- Utilizes loan origination systems (LOS) and complaint management systems to track, research, and manage investigations.
- Escalates confirmed or suspected fraud in accordance with company policy and regulatory requirements.
- Performs trend analysis on fraud cases, complaints, and investigation outcomes to identify patterns and emerging risks.
- Develops and maintains dashboards to monitor fraud trends, case volumes, and key risk indicators.
- Prepares and delivers recurring reports, including quarterly reporting, summarizing findings, trends, and recommendations to management.
- Supports audits, regulatory reviews, and internal quality control processes by providing documentation and responses.
- Maintains confidentiality and ensures proper handling of sensitive and protected information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications - Experience/Skills/Competencies
- Minimum 5 years of experience in mortgage operations, fraud investigation, underwriting, servicing, or quality control.
- Working knowledge of mortgage loan lifecycle, including origination and servicing processes.
- Experience identifying and investigating common mortgage fraud schemes and red flags.
- Proficiency using LexisNexis or similar fraud detection and verification tools.
- Experience working with loan origination systems (LOS).
- Experience utilizing complaint management systems for tracking and resolving issues.
- Experience performing data analysis, trend identification, dashboard creation, and reporting.
- Strong analytical and investigative skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to follow established procedures and document findings accurately.
- Effective communication skills, including presenting findings to stakeholders.
- High level of integrity and ability to handle sensitive information with discretion.

Compensation
The base salary range for this position is inclusive of all geographical differences in the labor market. The base salary for the position will be determined based on factors such as the candidate’s work location, skills, education, and experience. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider the internal equity of our current team members in determining any final offer.
