Compliance Accountant

We are seeking a Compliance Accountant with
good technical understanding and proven experience managing tax and statutory compliance obligations.
Reporting directly to the Finance Director, you will coordinate global filing activities, ensuring compliance across multiple jurisdictions while maintaining effective communication with external advisers and internal stakeholders. You will play a key role in ensuring regulatory requirements are met, compliance calendars are maintained and tax-related financial controls remain robust.
Given the importance of this role, candidates must be able to demonstrate relevant experience in tax, finance or compliance environments and possess appropriate finance qualifications or equivalent experience.

Key responsibilities of the role…
UK Indirect Tax Compliance:
Own the UK VAT process including data capture, review, submission and payment
Ensure compliance with Making Tax Digital requirements
Monitor changes in VAT regulations and assess potential business impact
Manage HMRC correspondence and respond to enquiries where appropriate
International Tax & Statutory Compliance Coordination:
Coordinate externally managed tax and financial accounts filing obligations across multiple jurisdictions including the US, EU and APAC regions
Act as the primary internal contact for external advisers preparing statutory accounts and tax filings
Manage internal information requests and ensure external advisers receive accurate and timely data
Maintain global compliance calendars and track key filing deadlines
Review submissions for completeness and escalate technical matters to the Finance Director or CFO where appropriate
Support the logistics of tax inspections, local audits and regulatory requests
US Sales Tax Oversight:
Oversee the Avalara-managed US sales tax compliance process across multiple states
Monitor potential new filing obligations and identify potential exposures
Research customer nexus positions and summarise findings for review by the Finance Director
Liaise with US advisers where required to ensure compliance requirements are met
Management of External Advisers:
Act as the primary point of contact for external advisers supporting global compliance processes
Coordinate information flow and ensure deadlines are clearly communicated and met
Support the Finance Director and CFO in reviewing adviser costs and monitoring scope changes
Identify potential process efficiencies or improvements for review
Compliance Reporting & Risk Management:
Reconcile Group tax balance sheet accounts on a monthly basis
Prepare compliance status reporting for the Finance Director and CFO
Support responses to regulatory requests including ONS enquiries
Assist with year-end audit queries relating to tax compliance
Track regulatory updates from advisers and coordinate internal responses
Identify opportunities to strengthen compliance processes, documentation and controls
About you…
AAT qualified or equivalent practical finance experience
Professional accounting or tax qualification (ACA, ACCA or CTA) or working towards one desirable
A minimum of 3 years’ experience working in a tax, finance or multi-entity compliance environment
Experience coordinating with external advisers, consultants or auditors
Good working knowledge of UK VAT processes
Highly organised with the ability to manage multiple compliance deadlines and reporting cycles
Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on accuracy and regulatory compliance
Clear written communication skills with the ability to summarise complex technical matters
A risk-aware mindset with the confidence to escalate issues appropriately
Experience within a multinational organisation desirable
Exposure to US sales tax or tax technology platforms such as Avalara desirable
