Global Pharma Strategy (GPS) drives Roche’s strategy and portfolio of products - from research and development through to patients, ensuring our portfolio delivers meaningful innovation to patients worldwide. As a member of the GPS team, you will be at the forefront of transforming groundbreaking scientific discoveries into accessible and impactful healthcare solutions for patients worldwide. As part of Portfolio, Strategy, and Insights (PSI) department within GPS, the Global Competitive Intelligence (CI) team delivers high-quality competitive intelligence and actionable recommendations that shape Roche’s decision-making across leadership and end-to-end (E2E) molecule teams, by integrating scientific, clinical, commercial and market insights.
As a Competitive Intelligence Leader, you will lead and implement competitive intelligence strategies for both early- and late-stage pipeline assets, as well as prioritized on-market products by leveraging AI-driven technologies and deep analysis of scientific, clinical, and commercial information. In this role, you will serve as a strategic thought partner and trusted advisor in guiding Roche’s product, disease area, pharma, and corporate strategy.
Your focus will encompass specific Disease Areas (DA) within a Therapeutic Area (TA) and broader industry trends. As a catalyst for strategic collaboration, you will engage with key functions including Research and Early Development (RED), Product Development (PD), PDMA, GPS, Partnering/Business Development, US Pharma, and Pharma International to drive strategic impact.
Responsibilities
Analyze and synthesize data from multiple sources (including primary/secondary research, real-world evidence, AI-driven analytics) to anticipate market evolution, competitor moves, and emerging trends that impact Roche’s strategy and competitiveness.
Shape competitive strategies, informing competitive positioning, TPP creation and launch plans (value proposition, differentiation, messaging). Lead assessment of standard-of-care evolution by synthesizing insights at pre-clinical and clinical stages, including emerging trends and modalities.
Evaluate and provide intelligence on competitor strategies, industry trends, and external business opportunities
Enhance Roche’s commercial and launch strategies by ensuring competitive readiness across pre-launch and marketed products.
Act as a strategic thought partner, providing high-quality insights to influence disease area, asset, and portfolio strategies.
Partner with key internal stakeholders (GPS, R&D, Product Development, Medical Affairs, Business Development, and commercial teams) to ensure insights are embedded in strategic planning.
Lead and execute strategic initiatives with clear objectives, ensuring timely, high-quality, and impactful deliverables.
Champion adoption of advanced analytics, AI-driven intelligence, and new methodologies to enhance insight generation and pioneer new ways of working to improve decision-making agility.
Deliver insights and recommendations to guide decision-making at the Disease Area (DA), Therapeutic Area (TA), and enterprise levels.
Bachelor’s Degree in life sciences or related discipline; MD, PharmD, MBA or PhD in a life sciences, technical, or analytical discipline is preferred. Proven experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
4+ years of strategic consulting or relevant experience, including an emphasis on competitive intelligence and strategic analytics.
You have worked in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or related management consulting, with a strong track record in insights and/or strategy roles.
Experience in analyzing market dynamics, and emerging trends (e.g., standards of care, new modalities, technologies, and platforms) to drive strategic implications.
You have supported research & development and/or product launch strategy preferred.
Exceptional ability to lead high-performing teams and influence cross-functional stakeholders in a matrixed, multicultural environment
Ability to synthesize insights from diverse sources (primary/secondary CI, congress coverage) into clear, data-driven strategic recommendations. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to anticipate market trends, customer needs, and competitive dynamics.
Strong interpersonal, communication, and storytelling skills to translate complex data into compelling insights. Proven ability to influence senior leaders and cross-functional teams without authority.
Bachelor’s Degree in life sciences or related discipline; MD, PharmD, MBA or PhD in life sciences, technical, or analytical discipline is preferred.
Availability to travel up to 25% of the time.
Excellent analytical and synthesis skills with demonstrated ability to interpret data and information from various sources (primary, secondary CI, congress coverage) and translate insights into clear and succinct actionable business recommendations.

Primary location for this position is South San Francisco CA and relocation assistance within the US is available. Position can also be based in Basel.
The expected salary range for the CIL position based on the primary location of South San Francisco, CA is $129,900 - $241,200 USD Annual. Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. A discretionary annual bonus may be available based on individual and Company performance. This position also qualifies for the benefits detailed at the link provided below.
