Job Description

This role presents an exciting opportunity to lead and grow software engineers while also engaging in meaningful, hands-on work within a product team.

Join our fantastic team at the LEGO Group, where you can make real impact, develop your skills, support others in their growth, and work in an inspiring, collaborative, and international environment.

Core Responsibilities

  • Lead a competency group of Software Engineers, supporting their development, wellbeing, and long-term growth.

  • Identify skill-building opportunities, training needs, and paths for continuous learning.

  • Contribute hands-on in a product team — besides taking coding tasks this can also mean engaging in meaningful engineering activities (e.g., workshops, solution design, architecture discussions, stakeholder alignment).

  • Promote strong engineering practices and a modern software mindset across teams.

  • Drive technical excellence and help strengthen our DevSecOps culture.

  • Support Agile ways of working and continuous improvement.

  • Help us attract diverse talent and foster an inclusive environment where everyone can thrive.

Play your part in our team succeeding

Product Delivery Technology is a crucial component of the Consumer and Marketing Technology organization within Digital Technology. Our department is dedicated to the creation of cutting-edge digital products, spanning product development, digital building experiences, workflow management and digital content creation. We operate at the intersection of innovation, creativity, and technology, committed to delivering solutions that drive excellence across different domains in the LEGO Group.

As a Competency Lead, you will:

  • Lead 6–12 engineers and ensure they have the right environment, clarity, and support to grow.

  • Operate in a matrix organisation, collaborating across teams and engaging with stakeholders to understand how your engineers are performing and thriving.

  • Take an active role in a product team, bringing your technical background to guide direction and ensure strong engineering practices.

  • Contribute to team culture by helping connect people, strengthening collaboration, and acting as a “social glue” across locations and age groups.

This role is an excellent fit if you enjoy autonomy, can fill the “white spaces,” and thrive in environments where not everything is predefined. You’ll work with complex products, shifting priorities, and impactful tools — all while shaping both engineering capability and team culture.

Do you have what it takes?

  • Background within software engineering.

  • Strong understanding of modern engineering practices and what software teams need to succeed.

  • Experience with cloud-native development and familiarity with architecture design patterns.

  • Curiosity about AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot) and how they can support productivity and creativity.

  • A genuine interest in developing, guiding, and enabling others.

  • Experience working in an agile environment and contributing to continuous improvement.

  • A collaborative mindset and an appreciation for diverse perspectives and experiences.

Bonus skills

  • Familiarity with LEGO® Product Development and LEGO® Development Process.

  • Solid understanding of and experience in Software Quality Assurance processes, tools, and methodology.

  • Proficient in modern technology stacks and architectural patterns like event-driven architectures and microservices.

  • Prior experience with domain driven design.
