Role Summary
We are looking for a Comp Artist for look development of product beauty imagery. The Comp Artist will be part of a team of CG Lighters and finishing retouchers producing some of the highest quality product images (often 16k resolution) in the market. This position requires taking outputs from the lighting team and furthering the look development with direction from Lead Artist and Art Directors. Then iterating with non-destructive process that produce the final image. Must be very organized with good annotative skills, highly attentive to detail, and sensitive to the whole production cycle.
Must have experience with Photoshop (and Nuke as an added bonus) in a production environment. Most importantly, you must have a good artistic eye for product beauty lighting, textural detail across many different materials, and color precision. Should be a self-motivated to work independently and meet scheduled hall marks and deadlines.
What you’ll do:
- The Compositing Artist will be supporting the Compositing Supervisor by working closely with lead artists and lighting/comp artists on implementing the expected and desired looks.
- Compositing product beauty imagery from multiple 3D renders.
- Organize and optimize file layouts, template files and outputs for archiving and department handoffs.
- Deconstruction of AOV lighting contributions and Build back to beauty compositing.
- Iterative, non-destructive file revisions based on Lead and Art Director notes.
- Supporting the Compositing Supervisor with occasional reviewing of work of artists and approving product for submission to the Art Director(s).
- Take ownership of file operations, both creatively and technically to maintain seamless production cycles.
- Participates in the recruiting and staffing of the Compositing team - assesses the work of prospective candidates for the hiring process and works with production management and Compositing Supervisor on hiring decisions, as needed.
- Mentoring individual artists technically as well as aesthetically. Helping new hires to get up to speed, in collaboration with Senior artists.
- Demonstrate the ability to prioritize and manage time well.
- Ability to work closely with Art Direction.
- Proven ability to work closely in a small team with tight schedules.
Requirements:
- 4+ years of experience in the high-end product retouching/visualization, or equivalent.
- Experience working with Nuke
- Extensive production experience with modular or non destructive compositing techniques.
- Portfolio required demonstrating strong artistic skills including knowledge of color, lighting, perspective, scale, and composition.
- Experience in feature film visual effects, commercial or high end production visualization.
- Expert knowledge of Photoshop or equivalent is required.
- Strong ability to multi-task, organize, and problem-solve while keeping a calm demeanor under tight deadlines.
- Ability to thrive as a member of a team.
- Excellent communication skills and attention to detail.
- Exceptional organizational and analytical skills.
- Detail oriented and focused on continual process improvement; must have a strong desire to learn from other members of the team, and to share knowledge
and discoveries. - Familiarity with 3D DCC is a plus, but not required.
- Scripting or programming experience (python) is a plus, but not required.
- Experience in using UNIX and shell scripts, is a plus, but not required.
