The Community Resource Specialist (CRS) provides practical experiences that enhance skill development and foster social interactions, essential for workplace readiness. It also helps manage unforeseen circumstances, ensuring smooth operations and positive experiences. 

   Keeping the Emergency Fact Sheet (EFS) Book updated and with you during activities is vital for ensuring quick access to critical information in emergencies. It provides essential details about individuals' medical needs, emergency contacts, and procedures, facilitating prompt and effective responses.  

Duties and Responsibilities 

  1. Be able to be on time and present for the entirety of scheduled shifts. 

  1. Participate and lead community activity groups (social and volunteering). 

  1. Must focus on the safety of the individuals during pick-ups, drop-offs, and activities. To minimize the risk of falls, assist individuals in and out of the van. 

  1. Always watch the individuals while out in the community to ensure their safety. (Eyes On Approach) 

  1. Understanding cognitive disabilities and their implications for the individual’s daily life functions and comprehension. Be patient and explain instructions to individuals and be willing to repeat instructions when necessary.  

  1. Being flexible, willing, and understanding of the need to change daily groups, volunteering sites, and van assignments.  

  1. Executing daily tasks such as completing paperwork thoroughly and returning all assigned items (van keys, cellphones, membership passes, money, and paperwork) to designated areas. 

  1. Develop community-based activities to enhance skills and confidence. Provide innovative ideas of places to visit and lunch sites.  

  1. The CRS must take the Emergency Fact Sheet (EFS) Book with them during all activities and keep it in a safe location with them. Do not leave the EFS book in the van. 

  1. Develop and implement community-based activities to help build the individual's skills and confidence towards work. 

  1. Be willing to participate in Vocational, Health & Wellness, Practical Life and Art, Culture & Community. 

 

Qualifications
  1. High School Diploma  

  1. One year of experience in a related field 

  1. Valid Driver’s license 

  • Strong communication skills: Critical thinking and conflict resolution skills (de-escalation) 

  • Punctuality: Be on time for scheduled shifts. 

  • Community Engagement: Lead and participate in social and volunteering activities. 

  • Safety Focus: Ensure individual safety during transport and activities (Eyes on Approach). 

  • Cognitive Understanding: Be patient and clear when instructing individuals with cognitive disabilities. 

  • Flexibility: Adapt to changes in groups, sites, and assignments. 

  • Task Execution: Complete paperwork and return all items to designated areas. 

  • Activity Development: Create community activities to enhance skills and confidence. 

  • Emergency Preparedness: Carry and maintain the Emergency Fact Sheet (EFS) Book during activities. 

Skills Required
