The Role

Moms First is a national nonprofit leading the fight for America’s moms. We are driven by our belief that motherhood is the unfinished business of gender equality. Founded by Reshma Saujani in 2021 at the height of the pandemic, our community of moms and supporters is 1.1 million strong and committed to fighting for a world where moms are valued and supported in our workplaces, communities, and culture.

Reporting to the Director of Digital Organizing, the Community Manager will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing the Motherhood, Moms First’s digital community for moms and supporters. Launched in May 2024, the Motherhood is a community for moms, by moms, committed to taking collective action to reimagine our communities, our workplaces, and our culture. This is a new initiative, and requires someone with a builder mindset, deep curiosity and penchant for learning, and a vision for how to mobilize moms as a coherent, powerful voice. The Community Manager will also be the “face” of our community, interacting daily with moms and supporters to equip them with high impact resources and a generous, vibrant, and supportive community so they can secure wins for moms everywhere.

A successful candidate will have 5+ years of demonstrated experience in community management, digital organizing, or a related field. You must have a track record of building new programs or communities that produce measurable results, and should have experience utilizing the latest digital tools to mobilize volunteers to take action. Nurturing relationships and inspiring others to action are two of your superpowers, and you are poised, mature, and data-driven in your work, using real time analytics to inform and refine strategy. Above all, you are passionate about the power of community and eager to educate and mobilize moms to finish the fight for gender equality once and for all.

The Moms First team is remote, with a hybrid work option for New York City based team members. This role may be performed virtually, but candidates must be willing to travel and be based near a major airport with direct flights to NY, DC, and LA.

Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the Director of Digital Organizing, develop and implement program strategy to grow the Motherhood into the largest, most powerful movement for moms in America
  • Design, launch, and manage our premier digital home for moms to build community on and offline, access resources, and create change
  • Ongoing recruitment and management of volunteers, as well as the implementation of community guidelines and moderation policies to ensure respectful and constructive interactions
  • Listen, learn, and build relationships with members of the Motherhood to build trust and inform the creation of new products, resources, and campaigns
  • Create and launch resources, workshops, and more to empower moms to take actions in their workplaces and communities
  • Project manage digital campaigns end-to-end with tangible CTAs that drive impact for our moms
  • Organize and host virtual and in-person events to drive community engagement, including moms’ participation in our annual Moms First Summit
  • Develop and distribute Motherhood-related communications, including newsletters and promotional materials
  • Analyze metrics and feedback to identify trends, measure the success of community initiatives, and inform overall grassroots strategy
  • In collaboration with the Communications team, curate content to stimulate community

Qualifications - The ideal candidate for this position has:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in community management, digital organizing, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of grassroots movements and community building
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with proven ability to build high-trust relationships with diverse community members
  • Proficiency with digital communication tools and CRMs, with a preference for candidates with experience using Every Action and Mobilize
  • Creative thinker with the ability to develop engaging content, including campaigns to drive collective action and virtual events
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with a track record of using data and insights to improve products and/or programs
  • Team player with a flexible, creative, and analytical approach to problem solving
  • Committed to the mission of finishing the fight for women’s equality
