Position Title: Community Engaged Scholars Coordinator

Department: Center for Community Engagement

Title of Immediate Supervisor: Director of Community Engagement

Funded Term / Work Cycle: 12-month/Full-Time

Expected Daily Work Hours: 8:00 am-5:00 pm

Expected Weekly Work Schedule: Monday-Friday; includes occasional evening and weekend responsibilities and travel, based on program needs.
Pay Grade: 5S

Starting Salary Expectations:  $39,334 - $42,776, with starting salary determined based on relevant experience, qualifications, and demonstrated competencies.

Position Purpose

This position supports the coordination and day-to-day operations of the Community Engaged Scholars Program, including student engagement, program administration, partner communication, and cornerstone program experiences that support civic learning and student development. 

SUMMARY

Maryville College is an endowed Bonner Scholar school within the national network of the Corella & Bertrum F. Bonner Foundation. The Community Engaged Scholars Coordinator manages the day-to-day operations and progress of 60 students in the Bonner Scholars Program, as well as 15 students in three other locally endowed Service Scholar programs that are similar in scope, collectively known as the Community Engaged Scholars Program.  

In addition to program coordination and administrative responsibilities, this position plays an important role in fostering student belonging, leadership development, civic engagement, and community connection within the Community Engaged Scholars cohorts. Therefore, this position is a highly accessible resource for scholars within the program, serving as a trusted support for students who view service and social justice as integral to their undergraduate careers. This position may also support broader initiatives and collaborative programming within the Center for Community Engagement and the Division of Student Affairs. 

Education and Experience required to ensure success in this position:

Education required:

  • Bachelor’s degree required from an accredited college or university 

Experience required:

  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience supporting student development, leadership development, advising, training, or engagement initiatives 
  • Experience working with students of all incomes and backgrounds, particularly those from historically marginalized communities
  • Demonstrated commitment to civic engagement, community service, volunteerism, or nonprofit/community-based initiatives 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Leadership and Collaboration: 

  • Assist in developing and coordinating co-curricular training in service, leadership, and social action in collaboration with Center staff
  • Supervise Center for Community Engagement student office workers and interns 
  • Participate in designated Bonner network regional and national meetings 

Data, Technology, and Compliance 

  • Maintain web pages, social media, print materials, calendars, etc. to help tell the story of Community Engagement at Maryville College 
  • Maintain accurate student participation records, service tracking, and program requirements through systems such as GivePulse
  • Assist with required reporting, assessment activities, and documentation related to Bonner and Service Scholars programs

Stakeholder and Institutional Support 

  • Coordinate student placements and maintain communication with community partner agencies
  • Support and maintain collaborative relationships with community partner supervisors
  • Arrange for recognition of student service and community partners 

Operations and Technical Oversight 

  • Coordinate operational, logistical, and administrative support for the Bonner and Service Scholar Programs, including managing support structures for scholars to remain in good standing
  • Support planning and implementation of Community Engaged Scholar cornerstone experiences (Orientation, First Year Trip, Sophomore Exchange, Winter Retreat, conference travel, and related activities)
  • Coordinate reservations, tracking, and maintenance of Center for Community Engagement fleet of vehicles, including assisting with student driver approval procedures

Fiscal Oversight 

  • Assist with monitoring budgets, expenditures, purchasing, and reconciliation activities for assigned programs and projects in accordance with College procedures
  • Support the Community Fund Mini-Grant program process

Strategic Planning and Sustainability  

  • Support assessment and continuous improvement efforts related to student engagement and community partnership outcomes
  • Provide input regarding student experience, program effectiveness, and operational improvements

Other:

NOTE: Other roles/duties will be assigned as necessary to assist the College in the attainment of the goals set forth and the enhancement of a positive, respectful learning environment for all staff, faculty, and students.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn and utilize systems such as GivePulse, Notion, JotForm, and other program management platforms 
  • Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with students, campus colleagues, and community partners 
  • Knowledge of community engagement, service-learning, or volunteer programs 

License, Certification, or Registration Necessary:

  • Valid driver’s license required with ability to travel as needed

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift/move up to 20 pounds 
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer 
  • Ability to travel between campus buildings or off-campus locations as needed 

Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:

  • Ability and willingness to operate College vehicles, including 15-passenger vans, in accordance with College policies
