Department OverviewThe Post Sale Systems Engineering Group is the technical lifeblood of the Sales and Field Operations organization. Our engineers design
and implement the innovative communications solutions that make a difference in the moments that matter. As the solution architect and
technical consulting lead, the Systems Engineering Group has end-to-end design, technology consultancy, and implementation responsibility
for all post-sale project engagements. The Systems Engineering Group delivers customer-driven, world-class, leading-edge, end-to-end
solutions that rise to the challenges of first responder, government, carrier, utility, transportation, and enterprise customers.
Job Description
Note: This hybrid position will be located in the Chicagoland area.
The Intern students assist Systems Engineers in all aspects of their work. We start out with the basics with small project assignments. We gradually give you larger projects with more responsibilities. Our goal for our student program is to develop excellent candidates for full time system engineering positions upon graduation.
Our System Engineers design radio communication solutions, from the conceptual phases through implementation that meet customer's requirements. They consult with the customer to determine their requirements to design the best solution to meet their needs. In cooperation with the sales, product development, and project management teams they develop technical strategies and generate proposals to customers presenting Motorola's solution. They provide coordination with the design and planning of the customer solutions using advanced technologies and provide technical support throughout the implementation of the project. This involves coverage and antenna site selection, frequency planning, interference analysis, design of system architecture, equipment selection, proposal generation, and presentations of proposed solutions to customers. System Engineers are then engaged in the implementation of these solutions as originally conceived. They take responsibility for all technical aspects of the assigned project from award until system acceptance. This involves implementation planning, system acceptance testing, coverage testing, and system staging. Travel is required for customer meetings, system staging, system implementation, and training.
Our engineers also work to ensure that our sales professionals and customers are kept up to date on the latest technology offerings from Motorola Solutions and their relevance to customer needs. Our Senior Engineers support their colleagues to enhance both individual and group competencies, including mentoring junior system engineers. We expect our engineers to operate as professionals and take responsibility for their development including professional and technical skills needed for their success as an engineer.
In particular, an Intern may assist Senior Systems Engineers with:
- Customer needs assessments
- End-to-end public safety radio communication system designs including core infrastructure, tower sites, 9-1-1 dispatch centers, and wireless backhaul
- End-to-end system architecture descriptions
- Coverage predictions using state-of-the-art advanced propagation tools
- Post-sale implementation
- Coverage and operational functional acceptance testing
- In-field site surveys for wireless backhaul designs
Preferred skills:
- Specialization or electives in wireless communication is a definite plus
- Excellent communications skills and the ability to present complex topics to non-technical audiences
- Self-motivated and able to maintain focus in a pressured environment
- Experience working with customers is desirable Experience/ Knowledge in radio systems, radio propagation, RF, wireless, broadband, microwave, and/or networking is desirable
- Experience/ Knowledge of communications networks (MPLS, Ethernet, TCP/IP) is desirable
- Certifications through CCNA, CompTIA, and/ or Amateur Radio/ HAM is desirable

Basic Requirements
- High School Diploma is required
- Must be pursuing a minimum of a Bachelor's degree (Computer, Systems or Electrical Engineering or other technical or engineering discipline) with a graduation date of December 2025 or later
