The Philadelphia Convention & Visitors Bureau is the official tourism promotion agency for the City of Philadelphia globally and the primary sales and marketing agency for the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The PHLCVB creates positive economic impact across the Philadelphia region, driving job growth, and promoting the health and vibrancy of our hospitality industry by marketing the destination and the Pennsylvania Convention Center, and attracting international visitors.

The PHLCVB is seeking an intern who will primarily work directly with the media relations team on tracking and entering global media clips into the CRM. In addition, the intern will work with the content, social media and public relations team in the Marketing and Communications department to strategize, craft and execute content for all platforms, including the PHLCVB website, print and digital publications and social media channels. This content will ultimately be used to tell Philadelphia’s story to both domestic and global audiences. In addition to working with the Communications team, opportunities may also arise to support marketing efforts in the department.

Duties and responsibilities include:

  • Monitoring local and international press coverage to assist Communications/Media Relations Managers with internal clippings report.
  • Uploading, tagging and organizing content for the PHLCVB photo library.
  • Conceptualizing, creating and editing content around Philadelphia’s numerous attractions, historical landmarks, and other noteworthy sites.
  • Researching, writing and fact-checking copy that positions Philadelphia as a must-visit destination.
  • Developing original, intriguing story ideas for social media channels, website and publications including the Philadelphia Official Visitors Guide.
  • Assisting in scheduling/monitoring on PHLCVB social media platforms.
  • Coordinating day-to-day projects.

Goals, Objectives and Performance Guidelines

Upon completion of this internship, the student will:

  • Gain a working knowledge of the functions of a convention and visitors bureau (CVB).
  • Gather communications experience in the tourism and destination promotion field.
  • Have a working knowledge of how to craft compelling content for a global tourism audience.
  • Hone skills in writing for bespoke audiences with different priorities.
  • Learn about content creation for B2C and B2B audiences.
  • Gain a wealth of knowledge on Philadelphia and its hotels, attractions, and other historical and artistic attributes.
Qualifications
  • Current enrollment in a four-year college/university or graduate program, with two years previously completed.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Interest in and some experience with social media platforms.
  • Superb written and oral communication skills required.
  • Experience writing and editing content.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Work well within a team and independently on projects.
  • Ability to take direction and follow through on projects.
  • Interest in, knowledge of, and passion for Philadelphia.

Skills Required
